What are side rooms and why they are not an appropriate solution for accommodating trans identifying individuals in order to maintain single-sex wards- a thread:

The NHS is about to restart its trial of puberty blockers for gender-questioning adolescents.
The significant negative effects of these drugs on the body are well-known; they affect bone health and limit growth, for instance, and can cause hot flushes, high blood pressure and memory loss.
Psychosocial risks haven’t received similar attention, and evidence of psychosocial benefit is patchy (it appears no bigger than the placebo effect in comparable adolescents).

BREAKING: County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is refusing to rule out taking disciplinary action against the Darlington nurses despite an employment tribunal finding they were unlawfully harassed.
President of the Darlington Nursing Union, said: “After everything we have been through it is astonishing that the Trust is still refusing to rule out taking disciplinary action against us.
“The trust has apologised. It has paid damages. It has accepted our concerns were not properly heard. An employment tribunal found we were subjected to harassment and unlawful discrimination. Yet somehow, even now, the trust appears to be keeping open the possibility of punishing the very nurses who were vindicated"

BREAKING: Front‑page story exposes how County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust spent over £1.25 million trying to defend a policy that let male staff who identified as women use female nurses’ changing rooms...
Darlington nurse and President of the Darlington Nursing Union, said: "It is outrageous that such a vast amount of public money has had to be spent on this case.
But what other message will get through to NHS managers who repeatedly ignored repeated warnings and the law and pressed ahead regardless? If common sense and basic fairness are dismissed, costly legal consequences may be the only language finally heard."
Andrea Williams, chief executive of the Christian Legal Centre, which has supported the nurses throughout the case, said: “Following the ruling, and the clear guidance arising from it, NHS trusts should not be left to interpret the law differently from one another.
“The Health Secretary must now ensure the law is implemented consistently across every NHS trust in line with the judgment."

Labour’s @danfrancis02 sat for hours on the MPs’ committee trying to make the Bill safe
Dan was particularly concerned about the learning disabled. He was ignored:
“I remain unable to support the Bill… It does not contain sufficient safeguards to protect the most vulnerable”
We were down in Rochester & Strood today - where MP Lauren Edwards is under the most pressure to revive the failed assisted death Bill and push it through into law.
Local residents turned out with The OH's @fionamacmac & @TheNotDeadYetUK, to ask her not to return this Bill.
The judge "found that “sanitary accommodation” meant more than simply a lockable lavatory cubicle, and included the wider space, including nearby wash basins."
This is key. Girls should not be expected to use toilets with boys hanging around outside.

@emma7gooding@oldspeak_books@CaringADignity I know. My elderly aunt was in exactly the same situation as in the original post - unknown man turning up at her flat late at night, ringing the intercom to be let in. She was afraid and turned him away, with a few choice words . She had some fight left in her, thankfully.
Thanks to @heraldscotland for giving us a reply to Marissa MacWhirter's column last week.
The reality is that when women’s rights bump up against the demands of trans-identified men, women’s issues are relegated.

📉 At last week's elections, “assisted dying” champions Keir Starmer and Kim Leadbeater's party went from being the biggest on Leadbeater's local authority to having no seats at all.
📈 A reminder of public priorities: 67% want “high-quality hospice and/or #palliativecare… universally available before any #assistedsuicide laws are passed.” (Just 1-in-6 disagree.)
📊 Recent polling suggested that more MPs would oppose the Leadbeater Bill if revived in the new Parliamentary session than could be relied upon to back it.

My view in @ObserverUK why many of us working in frontline healthcare think bringing this particular #AssistedDying bill back would be dangerous. @PaulFosterMP

Neurologist accused of 48 counts of sexual assaults against 48 of his female patients has been acquitted recently by a male judge. 48!
In doing so, the judge dismissed the expert testimony of a female doctor and expert on whether vaginal and breast exams were part of the norm during neurological exams (They are not)
We are still a long way from addressing sexism and gender bias in the court systems. This all will serve to further undermine reporting. Victims legitimately ask "what is the point"
We really appreciate the support. A response from @wesstreeting is more than overdue. This is what we were told via the media in April 2025... 👇🏻

There is no evidence that regret or detransition is *rare*. Baroness Burt of Solihull has been misinformed. Numbers are unknown due the refusal of gender clinics to provide their patient data to Cass and they did not follow-up themselves.
There are no NHS funded services for detransitioners, currently there is nowhere for them to go. Which is a travesty.
This is incredible.
Where are the "the strong safeguards, the professionalism and the medically informed evidence" for young people at the adult gender clinics? The Levy Review exposed the opposite. Who is advising Baroness Merron?
Excellent thread from @CforWomenUK 👇
I've just listened to this, and @Docstockk is brilliant - her arguments, delivery, logic. Strongly recommended, whether or not you have a position on this issue:

“But this newspaper's analysis found a staggering 97 per cent of 190 NHS trusts in England with inpatient facilities have outdated policies allowing trans-identifying biological males to use women-only spaces such as wards, changing rooms and toilets.”
