We are a NYS movement of older adults and disabled people, family caregivers, home care workers & advocates fighting to #PassNYHealth & win #FairPay4HomeCare
INTRODUCING: The #CareNotCorruption Campaign
Platform:
⭐️ Pass #FairPayforHomeCare
⭐️ End the PPL Monopoly & Restore Choice to CDPAP
⭐️ Eliminate private insurance middlemen from NY’s home care system
⭐️ Invest in our care & prevent Medicaid cuts by TAXING THE RICH
"I do not trust the intentions of either the federal DOJ or
@GovKathyHochul, given that no one who holds a stake in this was consulted, neither CDPAP employees nor people who receive care.”
—Letter-to-the-editor by Sage Jobsis, Caring Majority leader & CDPAP consumer

"[Caring Majority leader] Maggie Ornstein, who provides care for her mother through the CDPAP, said the DOJ lawsuit shows that “ we knew what we were talking about all along and should be paid attention to and listened to.”
Ornstein echoed others’ misgivings about the Trump administration’s aims with its lawsuit — and said consumers and caregivers must have a seat at the table for any discussion of further changes to the program."
https://t.co/pjDlUREvTw
"A scathing Justice Department lawsuit over Gov. Kathy Hochul’s consolidation of a popular Medicaid home care program paints the picture of a transition so troubled that workers inside and outside of state government repeatedly sounded the alarm — seemingly to no avail."
Yep.
If we were listened to from the beginning by the @GovKathyHochul administration, this lawsuit wouldn’t be happening.
Now her actions have made our Medicaid and home care funding vulnerable to a right-wing attack.
The federal government has promised to cut Medicaid to the bone. We will not let the feds use the Governor’s mistakes to destroy a program that keeps millions of New Yorkers alive and in their homes.
POV: Your unaccountable girlboss governor destroys the Medicaid-funded home care program you rely on to live, and it fuels Trump Admin attacks on Medicaid, which will greatly harm New Yorkers
‼️ @GovKathyHochul's shameful disregard for caregivers and the communities they serve — even when her handpicked provider raised red flags — has bolstered Trump’s rapacious plan to gut medicaid, giving ammunition to his otherwise completely illegitimate argument of mass fraud. Medicaid is a lifesaving and necessary program that millions of New Yorkers rely on. The Governor has already slashed health insurance for nearly half a million people, and now her perfidy has put many more in serious jeopardy. We need real leaders who will stand up to Governor Hochul and Albany’s stunning neglect this session for the healthcare and Home care needs of millions of New Yorkers.

"I am now left with the question if I can financially keep our home. Sarah cries when I tell her we may have to sell our home and move. I cry because I am sad for her and simply exhausted."
Powerful op-ed on the CDPAP transition from Caring Majority leader and family caregiver, Doris Behan.

🧵While clearly this was not the statement we hoped to make, there is much reason for hope! Join us for a campaign debrief and new member orientation next Thursday, June 18 (RSVP at https://t.co/Dghp7vEgMu).
We brought in new members and leaders from all over the state, recruited new legislative champions, and we made major inroads on key legislative campaigns and organizational goals which will pave the way for victory next year.
We got the Home Care Savings & Reinvestment Act—to eliminate private insurance from New York’s home care system and reinvest the savings directly into care–passed through the Senate Health Committee. The Home Care Transparency Act, which will provide transparency on the $11 billion Medicaid dollars handed to PPL and hold the private equity-backed corporation accountable for its failures, has almost 60 co-sponsors.
And critically, we have built powerful relationships with other movements fighting for a more caring New York, including the Tax the Rich, New York For All, and New York Health Act campaigns.
Caring Majority truly showed up, fought hard, and showed what true care in action looks like.
[ALT TEXT: Legislative session is over and Albany failed to support New York’s home care workers and consumers. State lawmakers did not pass the Home Care Transparency Act to establish basic oversight of PPL’s disastrous management of the $11 billion CDPAP program. They failed to advance the Home Care Savings and Reinvestment Act to eliminate the insurance middlemen who pocket billions while the care crisis worsens. They refused to pass the Fair Pay for Home Care Act to raise wages and address a workforce shortage that leaves older and disabled New Yorkers without the care they need. And they refused to act on the looming Essential Plan cliff, abandoning an estimated 450,000 New Yorkers, many of them immigrants, who will lose their health coverage this summer due to federal cuts.
Instead, Albany allowed corporations and private equity firms to continue profiting from billions in public Medicaid dollars meant for care, without oversight or accountability
At a moment when the Trump administration is actively dismantling the safety net that millions of New Yorkers depend on, our state's leaders failed to fight back. New York leaders had the solutions. They had the legislation. They had the testimony of real New Yorkers whose lives depend on home care. Yet leadership chose to look the other way. Every New York family will one day rely on home care. The New York Caring Majority will not stop fighting until this state delivers care, not corruption, to the workers and consumers who cannot afford to wait.]
📢 New York MUST protect Haitian home care workers!
We joined with our allies in Little Haiti last Friday to uplift two demands: protect TPS holders from ICE and deportation and pass state legislation to uplift and protect home care workers.
Haitian immigrants are valued community members, and they are essential to our communities and NYC’s home care industry, caring for elderly and disabled neighbors, showing up every day to provide the personal assistance that allows New Yorkers to remain in their homes.
NY’s home care industry was already on the edge before the current administration started dismantling immigration protections. We stand together in demanding fair wages, accountability, and full protection for workers.

This morning we gathered in Brooklyn's Little Haiti neighborhood to demand protections for Haitian immigrant home care workers as the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to rule this summer on Temporary Protected Status for Haitian immigrants living and working in the United States.
Haitian immigrants are essential to New York City’s home care industry, caring for elderly and disabled neighbors, showing up every day to provide the personal assistance that allows New Yorkers to remain in their homes and out of costly institutions. New York's home care industry is facing a compounding crisis: immigrant workers already battling wage theft and low wages now face the threat of losing their legal right to work entirely.
We’re demanding both fair wages and labor protections for home care workers and urgent action to shield the immigrant workforce that the industry cannot function without.

BREAKING: Home care workers, consumers, and @drewforny delivered 'The People's Audit' to Comptroller DiNapoli's Albany office.
DiNapoli refuses to audit PPL's $11 billion CDPAP program, so we did it ourselves. 200k+ workers and consumers have fled the program. Workers aren't getting paid. And the Comptroller has done nothing.
#CareNotCorruption
Wonderful town hall earlier this week with @drewforny and 50+ Caring Majority community members.
Engagement for Drew is high! We’re excited for a new state comptroller who will hold PPL and big corporations who profit off our care accountable!
Check out and support Drew at the candidate debate tonight at 7 on @NY1.
