The term "anti-Semitism" was invented by German agitator Wilhelm Marr in 1879, to rebrand ancient hatred for Jews as socially acceptable racial "science." The eugenics movement was in its infancy, just coming into fashion.

Anti-Semitism referred, specifically, to Jews. That is why the Nazis murdered 6 million of us in the most industrialized genocide in history.

Notably, the Nazis collaborated with Arab leaders, and hoped to bring the Final Solution to Arab lands. In Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, and Algeria, they opened brutal work camps where thousands of Jews died. Arabs and Europeans alike staffed these camps and enacted immense cruelty on Jewish prisoner-slaves.

In Iraq, Hitler's ideas were broadcast over the radio. During a brief lapse in British control, a 2-day pogrom unleashed brutal violence on Baghdad's Jewish population. My grandmother Hela survived it. The event became known as the Farhud. Her family fled Iraq for the country you villainize constantly as a career.

Not all Arabs participated actively in enacting Nazi policies. But many did. The Nazi incursion into Arab lands and the policies they enacted there against Jews did not prompt an organized resistance from Arab inhabitants. The Nazis were defeated in North Africa and the Middle East by the Allied forces.

Francesca Albanese has demonstrated her hate for Jews many times.

Now she has demonstrated her extreme incompetence.

Someone who does not understand basic elements of the modern history of the Middle East cannot, and must not, participate in shaping its future.

At long last, the UN Human Rights Council has formally acknowledged that Hamas in Gaza carried out executions, torture, improperly used medical facilities for terror purposes, and engaged in violent abuses against women and children after October 7. The report captures only a fraction of what actually occurred, in part because documenting these crimes is extraordinarily difficult and because Gazans fear retaliation if they report anything to the UN or other investigators. The findings on Hamas were buried beneath a long section on Israeli settler abuses in the West Bank, but even so, this marks a significant shift for an international body that has long struggled to speak plainly about Hamas’s brutality in Gaza.

Most importantly, the report acknowledges but barely scratches the surface of how extensively Hamas has weaponized Gaza’s medical infrastructure, embedding fighters in hospitals, using patients as shields, and turning civilian facilities into operational hubs. The UN even notes that Doctors Without Borders evacuated non-essential staff from Nasser Hospital because Hamas was interfering with the hospital’s operations.

When I shared this information, including testimonies from Gazans who documented Hamas’s fascistic behavior inside hospitals, and photos of fighters emerging from Nasser Hospital after the ceasefire, the online “pro-Palestine” chorus had nothing to offer except accusations of Zionist collaboration, accusations of betrayal, and personal insults. This UN report is an indictment not only of Hamas, a violent extremist terror organization responsible for immense suffering, but also of every activist, journalist, and academic who chose to look away. It shows that Hamas’s crimes were so egregious, so undeniable, that even a slow, hesitant, and often ineffectual body like the UNHRC could no longer pretend not to see them.

Shame on anyone who still defends Hamas or ever believed its violence constituted “resistance” on behalf of the Palestinian people.

De Raad van Amsterdam gaat donderdag een boycot tegen Israël afkondigen op basis van zijn ‘mensenrechtenbeleid’. Dat gebeurt niet tegen een land als #China, terwijl je dat op basis van hetzelfde beleid zou mogen verwachten.
Zo’n miljoen Oeigoeren creperen in Chinese kampen. In Hong Kong is elke oppositie gesmoord. 6 Miljoen Tibetanen en miljoenen religieuze minderheden worden beperkt in hun religieuze en nationale vrijheden.
Toch herbergt Amsterdam twee Chinese overheidsbanken, enkele grote Chinese bedrijven zoals Huawei en biedt het ruimte aan diverse handelsmissies vanuit China, zoals de China–Netherlands Investment and Trade Cooperation Conference die in het Van Gogh Museum op 22 april plaats had.
De UvA en de Hogeschool van Amsterdam hebben samenwerkingsprojecten en uitwisselingsprogramma’s met Chinese Universiteiten. Geschat wordt dat China tot 10% van de Amsterdamse economie uitmaakt.
Als je als gemeente al meent dat je zelf buitenlandse politiek moet bedrijven, doe het dan consequent. Wees niet hypocriet en discrimineer niet.
Amsterdam koopt jaarlijks voor honderden miljoenen euro’s aan werkkleding, ICT, bouwmaterialen, zonnepanelen en elektronica. Veel daarvan komt uit China. Gaat dat ‘gewoon’ door? Hebben de Amsterdammers geen recht om te weten hoe de gemeentelijke contacten zijn met Chinese staatsbedrijven die medeplichtig zijn aan die schendingen van de mensenrechten. Of moeten we concluderen dat in Amsterdam misdaden zwaarder worden gewogen als die door Joden zijn begaan? Dan zijn we terug in de Middeleeuwen. (Afgezien van de vraag of alles wel waar is wat door de gemeenteraad wordt beweerd)
Amsterdam kreeg na de oorlog van Koningin Wilhelmina het devies: “Heldhaftig, Vastberaden en Barmhartig.”
Die spreuk heeft zichzelf helaas overleefd. “Angstig, Inconsequent en Onbekwaam” lijkt nu meer op zijn plaats.

@Denkjewel Volgens mij is Lammy ook vergeten dat na de dood van Floyd er over de hele wereld demonstraties waren. In Nederland zelfs de befaamde demonstratie waar Halsema een flinke duit in het zakje had en wat bijna uitliep op een debacle vanwege de corona maatregelen die genegeerd werden.

Why can't Starmer stop this? This is Leeds University, not an Al-Qaeda training ground. Students here are pressured to believe that their education in medicine, law, or graphic design means nothing unless they devote themselves to defending Hamas and the October 7 attacks in Israel. Parents send their children to university to study medicine, engineering, law, and science, not to be indoctrinated by political extremists. Across parts of Britain and Ireland, Muslim Brotherhood-linked activism has turned some campuses into platforms for ideological recruitment.

Universities should be places of learning, debate, and critical thinking, not factories for radicalization. You pay tens of thousands in tuition fees expecting doctors, engineers, and entrepreneurs. Instead, too many parents are watching their children emerge as Islamist activists consumed by extremist politics.

Education should build futures, not manufacture division.

@ShashiRoopram Wie zegt dat zij zelf voor zo'n man heeft gekozen!? Volgens zijn woorden is hij met bepaalde waarden en normen opgegroeid, vanuit cultuur. Zij kan dus ook uitgehuwelijkt zijn en dan is het niet haar eigen keuze.
