Congrats to the Coalition for the Advancement of Research and Innovation in Trauma for securing funding through the FY 22 Omnibus Appropriations bill. These funds will help to enable innovation in trauma treatment to improve treatment, reduce morbidity, and reduce mortality.

Despite these statistics, funding for trauma research is far below that of other conditions. To best prepare for a mass casualty event and align with ASPR’s Goal 2 of expanding specialty care in trauma, BARDA should specifically recognize physical trauma as a health threat.
