1. expert intuition (“fast”) = pattern-matching on past experiences
2. careful reasoning (“slow”) = confronting a new scenario with step-wise thinking

Excited to see this out! We quantified mtDNA copy number across ~10k GTEx samples (52 tissues), 20 mouse tissues & 173 human cancer cell lines. Integrating these data produced several insights, including that high-mtCN cell lines can resist GPX4 loss. https://t.co/f9AiHhIC60

We use this to dig into SPN biology, including (1) a TF code defining the composition and spatial location of reticulospinal neurons, (2) transcriptomic differences b/w cervical- & lumbar- projecting SPNs, (3) electrophysiologically distinct types of rubrospinal neurons. (5/7)
Division 1 includes exclusively excitatory SPNs from the cortex, red nucleus, and deep cerebellar nuclei, Division 2 are transcriptomically heterogeneous reticulospinal neurons, and Division 3 are “modulatory” SPNs express slow acting neurotransmitters or neuropeptides. (4/7)
The taxonomy includes 65,002 SPN snRNAseq profiles after QC from 6 brain regions (cortex, hypothalamus, midbrain, pons, medulla, cerebellum). We find these profiles organize into 3 main “Divisions”. (3/7)
Excited to see our paper out in @Nature last week! As part of a larger effort to develop a cell type atlas of the whole mouse brain, we built a brain-wide anatomic and transcriptomic atlas of adult mouse spinal projecting neurons (SPNs). (1/7) https://t.co/nOPfyEgcEE
SPNs are the neurons that link the brain to the spinal cord, enabling us to transform our "thoughts" into "actions". To create this atlas, we used retrograde labeling, whole brain imaging, snRNAseq, and integration with MERFISH data generated by Yao et al, Nature, 2023. (2/7)
