My new article at the @IndependentInst.
The history of the European Commission that governs the European Union from Brussels is easily characterized as ceaselessly clamoring for more and more control over even minor matters bearing on commerce.

As Global Entrepreneurship Week is being celebrated all over the world, one of the best places to understand what starting a business is all about and why it's so important to development in every country, especially the poorest, is the new Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream in Washington just across the street from the White House and U.S. Treasury. It is absolutely worth a visit.
This is Global Entrepreneurship Week! Twenty years ago Gordon Brown and I decided to work on a U.S./U.K. prototype. The purpose: expose millions of students to the option of starting a new business. In Ewing Kauffman’s word's — “Make a job, don’t take a job.” This week there are programs and events in over 160 countries! GEW gets bigger and stronger every year!
Congratulations to Joel Mokyr on his Nobel Prize! With two other giants in economics, David Landes and William Baumol, he published The Invention of Enterprise: Entrepreneurship from Ancient Mesopotamia to Modern Times in the Kauffman Foundation series at the Princeton University Press.

New York State’s economy is in trouble. Never has the U.S. seen such a significant wave of interstate migration. And never have tax rates been the principle cause!

Both the Trump tariff agreements reached last weekend will produce growth and add to the likelihood that America’s economy will further flourish. The one area of concern are the EU’s long standing efforts to limit the business practices and to impose extraordinary taxes on US tech companies that brought Europe digital services in the first place. Not good for the next big tech step — AI in Europe.
