I could be totally wrong. Caleb couldve given up on his reverse-time scheme right then and there and made a resolute choice in the matter. But given the empire kids' tendency to wallow in their own issues and hide shit, i dont think this is over just yet.

[critical role 97 spoilers] I see a few people thinking that because Caleb gave Essek a speech about how he is still capable of redemption, Caleb is also pushing aside his goal: reversing his parent's death and aiming for redemption in the present. I think it's too early to tell.

I think he sees Essek as someone so close yet outside of himself that he can vicariously feel redemption in. That if this broken man that he sees as a mirror can be redeemed, then Caleb can move onto his goal without regret. He saved himself in a roundabout way.

I think about Jester ships in relation to the 'manic pixie' archtypes and between widojest, beaujester, and fjorjester, the whole top row could be considered for it if not for the fact Jester is indeed her own person with goals and aspirations that go against the trope.
