E172 is up with journalist & author @robsondan. We talk about his latest co-authored memoir,
Hammered: The Fight of My Life by Dave “The Hammer” Schultz. It’s a candid piece by a hockey great. Terrific convo, give a listen: https://t.co/KbXpJusrUB
Thank you so much, Dan!
When things go wrong, you'll find they usually go on getting worse for some time; but when things once start going right they often go on getting better and better.
#SundaySentence from The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis.
New from me: Eight victims’ families now have some semblance of an answer. Shannan Gilbert’s family does not…. She remains the case’s first and last great unsolved mystery.
What Happened to Shannan? https://t.co/6ik0LoXvHd
Yesterday I wrote that Timothée Chalamet should’ve won the #Oscar last year for A Complete Unknown. I put my head on the pillow last night & woke up this morning and realized how wrong I was. Colman Domingo moved mountains in Sing Sing last year. This man - not Chalamet, not Brody- deserved the award.
Sing Sing deserves to be seen by many more people. If you haven’t had an opportunity to see this film, you should try to watch. I cried my ass off because this is a film that reminds us all that art & self expression can help save a person’s life. These are the sort of stories & performances that stay with you forever.
🚨Breaking News ❤️❤️❤️
Erin Jackson has officially made history as the FIRST Black woman to win an individual GOLD medal at the Winter Olympics 🥇🔥
Moral Lesson: Never let anyone tell you where you don’t belong. History is waiting for you to rewrite it.
Loved interviewing Eleanor Shearer for her brand new book, FIREFLIES IN WINTER. We had a lot to talk about, so give a listen: https://t.co/Y6Y8JnmXJh.
Thank you so much, Eleanor!
E171 is up! Listen here: https://t.co/Lb039A0cVj.
Huge thanks to author Eleanor Shearer for joining me on the show to talk about her terrific new historical fiction book, FIREFLIES IN WINTER. We chat about that & so much more. Give a listen.
TY, Eleanor! #booktwt#bookpodcast
.@BrettFavre With all due respect to one of the greatest QBs ever — I didn’t grow up knowing where the Packers played, what Lambeau Field was, or why people proudly wear cheese on their heads 🧀😄.
I watched. I learned. And now I get it.
That’s how @NFL football works. And honestly, that’s how the Super Bowl halftime show works too. It’s not about only watching what you already know — it’s about discovering what millions of your fellow Americans already love.
Bad Bunny isn’t “foreign” to the Super Bowl — he is America too 🇺🇸🇵🇷🎶. Different sounds, same country, same game.
The Super Bowl is big enough for frozen fields, cheese hats, country music… and Spanish lyrics.
That’s not losing tradition. That’s America showing how big the tent really is. 🏈❤️
And you should try Tembleque, Alcapurrias and Mofongo! Don’t be sad, be happy!
Is it lying when one knows how one wants things to turn out and then says what is needed to achieve that result?
Another #SundaySentence from VIGIL by George Saunders.
SIR IAN MCKELLEN. He is doing so many things here at once: giving an acting lesson, giving a history lesson, emphasizing the power of arts, AND eloquently speaking against ICE & silencing anti-immigrant bigotry.
Wow…..
Our traffic in The Washington Post’s book section was actually quite robust, even relative to the general decline of newspaper audiences. There’s an appetite for this work no matter how little institutional will there is to support it.
