Musicians, this is probably your busiest time of year.
Do your mental and physical health a favor by staying active and not giving up on movement.
A little bit goes a long way.
Many of my artist and creative clients tell me they want a stronger core to help with their work.
We do fewer: crunches, sit ups, Russian twists
We do more: anti-extension (dead bugs and planks,) anti-rotation (pallof press,) anti-lateral flexion (side planks) and chops/lifts
You don’t HAVE to lift barbells to get strong or build muscle.
For creatives who rely on their bodies for their work and art, other gym tools might be a better fit.
If you’re a busy creative person with a life outside the gym, you’re never going to be perfect with fitness or nutrition.
Thankfully, you don’t need to be perfect to look, feel and perform better.
You just need to be good enough for long enough to see results.
Want to get stronger?
What doesn’t work:
❌Light weights (or the same weights you’ve used for years)
❌High heart rate circuits
❌No rest
What does work:
✅Challenging weights or exercises
✅Less concern with heart rate, more concern with progress
✅Taking plenty of rest
Here’s one way to make working out more enjoyable:
Instead of just doing it because you feel bad about yourself, connect exercise to stuff you love.
I work out because it gives me more energy, strength and stamina for the outdoor and musical and adventures I love.
You don't need to be a full-time professional artist or musician to identify as a creative person.
Creativity comes in many forms. You get to decide if you claim it for yourself.
You might think you want someone else's body.
But do you really want their life?
Getting and staying super lean requires big costs and sacrifices.
It's just not worth it (or necessary) for most people with dreams and priorities outside of fitness.
Too little time spent on fitness can lower your quality of life and hurt your health.
Too much time spent on fitness can lower your quality of life and hurt your health.
Find the happy medium that works for you.
Both of these are true if you want to get strong and fit for life:
✅You have to do a lot of boring, monotonous, basic shit over and over and over.
✅You need to enjoy what you’re doing on some level. That means some of your exercise should be fun.
The best thing to do after a weekend of overindulging is to get right back to your usual routine.
Just say no to punishing yourself with extra cardio, harder workouts or extreme calorie restriction.
Putting a band around your knees for every exercise is not helping you grow bigger, stronger glutes.
If anything, it's actually holding you back from potential 🍑 gains.
