@ssmyser66@KyleHunter@tommysantos14 You’re living in a dream world, Steve. Trump has flatly refused to work with ANYONE who doesn’t agree with him. Many have offered. If by “working with him” you mean saying “of course you’re right, sir”, that isn’t going to happen.
@ssmyser66@KyleHunter@tommysantos14 You’re living in a dream world, Steve. Trump has flatly refused to work with ANYONE who does not agree with him and flatter him. Can you not see that? If by “working with him” you mean agreeing with him and saying “of course you’re right, sir!”, that is not going to happen.
@fusion_xr@RonFilipkowski I think it’s whatever HE wants. His own personal truth, which everyone should accept without question. And way too many do just that.
@Cracktus420@MerStone0502@esjesjesj You mean “into pockets of the already fabulously wealthy”, don’t you? Because that’s what’s happening. Tax cuts to the rich. We’re almost at oligarchy status already. And it hasn’t even been a full week. Cancer research benefits ALL people, thus a good investment.
I knew the Houston school takeover was not a good situation, I just didn’t realize the extent of the damage being done and how urgent something needs to change. The hearing today solidified my understanding of the situation. We listened to three hours of testimony from parents, teachers, community members and even a researcher, and I have provided some of the highlights below. Thank you to Rep. Christina Morales for pulling this hearing together, and for all of the Reps who participated.
-Teaching in HISD became unbearable due to the toxic/hostile work environment.
-Teachers were bullied. One teacher had his desk taken away.
-Nearly 4,600 staff left HISD since the takeover one year ago.
-Half the principals have been removed. Some had recently earned recognition for their work.
-A teacher was fired in front of a classroom of kids because one student had a phone out during class.
-A disproportionate number of black teachers have been let go (fired).
-30 out of 40 teachers in an A-rated school left.
-Teachers experiencing depression and anxiety.
-New teachers being hired no longer need to be certified.
-They don’t have the resources to follow IEPs.
-Administrators are unresponsive and lack a connection to the schools.
-Problems revealed in the data showing improvements in student performance.
-Mike Miles has lied and there has been retaliation against teachers who speak up.
-Schools are in chaos.
-Spanish is discouraged. The dual language program doesn’t exist, but is still getting funded. Where is that funding going?
-Libraries have been closed. They were turned into detention centers, now called “team centers.” What happened to the $7 million meant for purchasing books?
-Kids were reprimanded for going to the restroom. Some would drink less water so they could last all day without going to the restroom. One child got a urinary tract infection as a result.
-Extracurriculars are no longer funded: debate, UIL, drama, speech.
-Students have lost all motivation to learn.
-Quote from a parent: “What Miles is doing is wrong for our schools.”
I felt heartbroken for the teachers, students and families dealing with such a massive mess in HISD. We must fix this! #txlege
After learning about TX sending school tax $$ to Colorado, based on an investigative report from Spectrum News 1 Texas, I wrote a letter asking the Texas House Investigating Committee to open an investigation.
Texas public school tax dollars have been going to the charter school network "Third Future Schools." This network has ties to Mike Miles, the Houston ISD Superintendent, who defends the practice of sending Texas taxes to Colorado. This is unconscionable, and should not be allowed. Our schools are strapped for money, can't pay teachers competitive salaries, and are struggling to do a great job for our kids.
My colleagues and I agree we need to have the Legislature investigate the money that has been transferred out of state through the Third Future School network and any other charter networks that could be doing the same thing. We also need to create a law to keep Texas public school tax dollars here. #txlege
@Cmcmillan76@wfaa EVERY Texan needs to know this. It’s definitely NOT grassroots. Especially regarding Ferris Wilks and Tim Dunn. https://t.co/JT8DvM8z9H
@willkennedynews That was just how I felt when I first heard about the Tulsa massacre just a few years ago. And that was with growing up in Texas and visiting grandparents in Oklahoma every year. Who exactly made the decision to keep us all in the dark?
@willkennedynews “All they do is commit crime on the streets”. Says the guy who has abused his power and attempted to subvert the law on several fronts.
It was so great seeing my friend and fellow reporter @willkennedynews today and speak to his class of Comm. Arts students at @UWF, my alma mater! We talked all about reporting and the importance of good journalism and storytelling. They are already so talented! 👏🎥📝
