Genuine conversation leads to genuine resolution. What can you do to be more genuine?

“Empowerment” means nothing if people are still afraid to make decisions.

➡️ Leaders: define it. Clarify the boundaries. Make the authority explicit.

Otherwise, it’s just another buzzword.

Pumpkin spice is everywhere 🎃☕

At work, though, you don’t need more flavor. You need more clarity.

Clear expectations. Clear communication. Clear agreements.

PSL makes Fall better. Clarity makes work better 😉

What’s the one question no one is saying out loud? 🧐

Sometimes the 💡 breakthrough starts before the conversation even begins.

Some of the most powerful things a leader can say:

💬 “I handled that poorly.”
💬 “You don’t have to agree with me.”
💬 “I need time to think about that.”

Those words don’t weaken authority. They build trust. Which one do you wish more leaders would say?

What if the thing disrupting your workplace isn’t actually the problem? 👀

How you respond to disruption may be shaping more conflict than you realize.

In your opinion, what creates the biggest hidden risk for an HR team?

[Carol Bowser @CarolNBowser]

What looks like resistance at work may actually be change fatigue.

🎯 New priorities. 💻 New technology. 🔄 New expectations.

Before addressing the behavior, ask what’s driving it. Seeing this in your workplace? Let’s talk.

Before you close the laptop, ask:

What conversation am I already avoiding on Monday? 🧐 Get clear on what needs to be said, make a plan, then enjoy your weekend.

🚨 BAD ADVICE OF THE WEEK:

“Just be the bigger person.”

Sometimes that really means: ignore it and avoid the conversation. Being professional doesn’t mean tolerating behavior that needs to be addressed.

Workplace conflict takes more time than leaders realize 👀

A 2026 study found managers spend 4.44 hours a week on conflict, nearly 29 workdays a year and $157B in manager time. Do your leaders know how to handle it well? DM me to start a conversation.

A powerful conflict tip 💪: Stop listening for what’s wrong. Start listening for what matters.

Behind most workplace conflict is something important to someone: respect, clarity, fairness, control, or being heard.

Saturday thought ☕️

Sometimes avoiding conflict actually creates more of it.

Silence may feel peaceful now, but unresolved issues rarely stay quiet. A little courage today can prevent a much harder conversation later.

Workplace investigations get messy 😧

The challenge? Listening with empathy without taking a side. A great conversation with Kari Hanson and Paige Dietrich of Sound Workplace Investigations 👇

A little workplace wake-up call ☀️ Not every problem needs an immediate solution.

Sometimes the best question is:

“Do we actually agree on what the problem is?” 🤔 You’d be surprised how many difficult conversations get easier from there.

[Carol Bowser @CarolNBowser]

When a workplace conflict gets “resolved” but still feels off, what’s usually missing? 🧐

“I am currently unsupervised” felt fitting at a conference where I was talking leadership, conflict, and supervision 😄

Loved being at WaPELRA 2026 to keynote on Conflict Competence and lead a session on the Wonderful World of Supervision. Great people and conversations!

🔴 RED FLAG: “Everyone agrees with me.”

🟢 GREEN FLAG: “Can I tell you how I experienced that?”

One opens conversation. The other shuts it down. Healthy conflict starts with owning your perspective, not assuming everyone shares your point of view.

[Carol Bowser @CarolNBowser]

Saying “yes” can feel like good leadership.

Until it starts costing you clarity, boundaries, and energy 🙄

Sometimes the most supportive response isn’t yes. It’s knowing how to say something else.

🚨 Workplace disrespect costs U.S. organizations an estimated $2.6B EVERY DAY in lost productivity and absenteeism. (Source: SHRM Civility Index)

That’s a business issue.

What looks like a “personality problem” at work may actually be fear 😨

Fear of looking unprepared. Fear of losing control. Fear of being exposed. Daniel Eisenman and I unpack why difficult behavior is often protecting something deeper.
