Council Representative @nelson6174 spoke at the @FairfaxDems Labor Caucus tonight about the disproportionate impact that COVID-19 has had on the immigrant community.
Our legislators must ensure that workers can get unemployment if they are at-risk.
“At the special session, I hope legislators will ensure that workers who catch COVID can use workers comp to pay their bills.” - Raul Castro, @Carpenters_197 at #Essential Worker Town Hall. #ProtectAllWorkers
It means so much to be endorsed by the essential workers getting us through the COVID-19 crisis. I’ll always be proud to stand with DC’s working families: https://t.co/oLygpC2zrz
Join @vainterfaith at 3pm for a Spanish-language broadcast with Carpenters Union Council Representative @CanahuiNeri about what we can do to protect our essential construction workers.
Construction workers like @Carpenters_197 built this city. As we re-build from the COVID-19 crisis, it's more important than ever that these workers receive the wages they’ve earned and can afford to live and thrive right here in the DC neighborhoods that we love. (7/10)
So honored to have the support of @Carpenters_197, the folks who literally build our city! It’s time for real action to make sure the protections DC has on the books — from wage theft to workplace safety — are making a real difference in workers’ daily lives.
Carpenters Local 197 is proud to endorse @JMGinDC for DC Council!
Jordan is the right person for Ward 2 to fight against wage theft and protect working families.
#EASCarpenters remember the life of @ArlingtonVA Board Member Eric Gutshall. Eric was a friend of labor who spoke about making the #Virginia construction industry fairer. In Dec 2019 he thanked members for their expertise on an Amazon project and praised the labor movement in #VA
Who is surprised that industry groups, GOP senators still hope to roll back good jobs and environmental bills they’ve always considered bad for businesses? https://t.co/FgRTd1lLdN
This is huge. @JCarrollFoy’s HB 123 just passed out of subcommittee. This bill would allow workers to sue employers for wage theft violations, with up to triple damages.
Thanks @delegatebagby, @KayeKory, @mikemullin4VA, and @delegateguzman for supporting vulnerable workers!
It’s late, but @KathyKLTran’s HB 1203, a bill that would allow localities to adopt prevailing wages, passed subcommittee! Thank you to @delegatebagby, @mikemullin4VA, @delegateguzman, and @JeffMBourne for supporting working families.
We are handing out a report at the @ArlingtonVA board meeting detailing the violations on multiple Amazon projects throughout the region.
Amazon promised 9 months ago this wouldn’t happen. How can we trust that future construction projects won’t have wage theft?
What theft is affecting workers, businesses, and the taxpayer alike. We need to allow local elected leaders the ability to set requirements for basic wage standards, workforce development, and grievance processes for private development to ensure maximum community benefits!
Senator Ebbin's legislation would go a long way towards leveling the playing field for employers in the construction industry that are currently doing the right thing and playing by the rules. Wage theft is an epidemic in Virginia and must be addressed.
Carpenters are demanding @amazon stop using contractors that utilize wage theft.
Were at the @ArlingtonVA meeting to demand that Amazon stop profiting from wage theft of construction workers.
Hundreds of carpenters are at the @ArlingtonVA County Government Building on this rainy Saturday morning.
We are demanding that @amazon stop using contractors that commit wage theft!
