A lifetime spent writing, in London and in Sussex. For national newspapers, international publishers, equestrian magazines. New book: Our Honest Charlie Wood.
@BohemiaStable@CarrAuthor@Waterstones It’ll be worth the wait. You’ll enjoy it very much. It’s that perfect combination of seriously detailed historical research and a tale very entertainingly told.
It's always such a pleasure to learn that readers enjoy Our Honest Charlie Wood - the life story of an exceptional jockey the Jockey Club tried to destroy. Thank you @JohnWathenBerry 💕 https://t.co/eqersJYH0c
What do we know of Charles Wood? Won all the Classics? Champion Jockey 1887? Rider of St Simon? Thats only fraction of story. His biography, superbly researched & written by @CarrAuthor, tells the fascinating tale brilliantly. Xmas coming - a great book to read, give or receive.

@JohnWathenBerry it was lovely to meet you and see your yard! I messaged Tod Ramos about your father “Ah yes! “A convivial extrovert” were the words I think he used to describe me 🤣 he was a wonderful man with a love of art and racing… what more could we want !” @wild_julian
Lovely morning at Machell Place with @kpfracing . The yard still looks just like it did when Charles Wood built it in 1884 - and they have named their syndicate The Runaway Boy Club after Charlie. Wonderful ❤️ I hope they enjoy the book!
Hoping @kpfracing will enjoy the copy of Our Honest Charlie Wood I’m taking round this morning to Machell Place - the state of the art yard Charles Wood built in the 1880s. It caused quite a stir at the Jockey Club as they watched him spend so much money!
We had a wonderful time celebrating Charles Wood with @bbcburnsy@wild_julian at @Beverley_Races. Now in Newmarket showing his family where Charles was apprenticed (now @bedfordlodge hotel) and Machells Place, the state of the art yard he built in the 1880s.
Lovely afternoon @Beverley_Races in memory of #Hull 's fogotten Derby and Triple Crown-winning jockey Charlie Wood.
Thanks to @CarrAuthor for the invite , sorry I lost you, but I was losing my shirt.
Great to meet Charlie's relative Ian.
Ta to @wild_julian for the intro.
