In the wake of surprising #AusVotes2019 results the call for explanation follows well-worn ruts.. Comparisons to US2016 and Brexit abound, but those comparisons ignore a vital link: the power of big data consultancy.

@wildrift A 5 stack premade is not acceptable "counterplay". Yi and Jax totally negate any other champs in solo queue. Pls stop balancing exclusively around high tier ranked. They were already decent pub stompers, now they just ruin the game.
For a party leader who has gone to such lengths to profoundly extend the executive reach of his office, an accusation (justified) of inaction is pretty damning. His hands are not tied: Eby's bench memos make that clear. He can do almost anything... if he wants to.
He could:
- Authorize use of schools as evacuee housing
- Leverage resources beyond the brief/budget of the PSM for emergency response, evacuation management, and fire control response
- Initiate formal state of emergency
.... for starters.
What exactly would @jjhorgan do if he wasn’t on vacation? Fly around giving platitudes? He has a Public Safety Minister for a reason.
I don’t get the outrage.
@roderickgraham It’s extremely ironic that British politician and sociologist, Michael Dunlop Young, the guy who coined the term “meritocracy”, did it in jest.
@roderickgraham The oldest story told by the powerful is that their power is rightful. The formulation changes somewhat (divine lineage, divine right, manifest destiny, meritocracy...), but the essence, and purpose, is the same.
@potaterator Gankutsuo (based on Count of Monte Cristo if Edmund was Hannibal) has an absolutely unique aesthetic. It is visually delicious and haunts my dreams.
Ergo Proxy is like Sarte vs Hegel in Mad Max in a battle to see who can be the most tragic. Its dense and potent and poetic AF.
@drex Extremely toxic industry.
There was a parking co in ATL that (eventually) got busted for Visa-trapping their employees (housed in company owned tenements).
Unregulated pay parking industry is unabashedly exploitative.
@letsshoplift Sun Tzu or Machiavelli?
Neither were intended to become the ethos of an ephemeral meta-empire driven by individualistic stake in conquest, yet both have.
@WrrrdNrrrdGrrrl Heh. You are.
Religioso Romani, the worship of the state as a divine entity and/or the fulfillment of the promise of divinity (to put the colonial slant on it).
Clearcutting old growth, stripmining the arctic, and pipelines at all costs paint a different picture, and we clearly cannot trust national media to hold the brush. International reporting is a small piece, but perhaps important one.
The pandemic is a great comparison.
When March '19 hit BC:
1. Many openly supported eugenics, including the standing gov't.
2. MANY voiced their immunity via privilege ("I jog/do yoga so I'm fine")
3. Overt racism swelled.
4. Gov't was extremely slow to adopt countermeasures...
Part of the solution, regionally at least, may be to debunk the classical international perceptions/myths regarding Canada in general and BC in particular. Our reputation as a haven for granola, tree hugging, and drum circles is part of the smoke screen.
