With three days to go, here’s where I stand.

Does JBB want Stammer to re-sign? Yes.
Does Stammer want to re-sign? Yes.
Do the fans want Stammer to re-sign? Yes.

The hard part? This little thing called the salary cap and agreeable compensation.

JBB’s job is to balance the present and the future. By tying up too much money in a group of players, the depth and team as a whole are harmed.

He cannot and should not doll out contracts without considering all angles. It’s not as easy as wanting a player to stay. It’s a matter of making it work for both parties.

I’m still holding out hope Stammer gets re-signed. If that doesn’t happen, I will certainly be devastated to lose one of the greatest athletes our area has ever had the privilege to root for. But I’ll respect JBB for not giving in for the sake of retaining a specific player.

This might not be popular. It might be a hot take, but it’s where I’m at.

Stammer signed his last contract on 6/29/16, two days before free agency began.
