Made of 100+ researchers across multiple organizations, we are researching coastal hazards in the PNW to support communities and increase their resilience.
It's a VERY large earthquake, possibly/probably among the 10 largest ever recorded. A clear subduction megathrust event. And another M>8.5 event with a notable foreshock (the recent M7.4 in same location), like Tohoku 2011. Tsunami warnings/watches should be taken seriously.
The Tsunami Watch has been changed to a Tsunami Advisory. Tsunami waves can be expected between 1140 pm and 1155 pm.
Wave Heights on Long Beach, WA are expected to be less than a foot. Seaside and Newport are not yet available.
