You don’t need to be born a prodigy to build a career as an artist. What matters is believing in yourself when no one else does, being ok with sucking at first, being down to learn out loud (meaning don’t hide for 10 years until you’re “perfect”…let your audience be a part of the evolution!!!), failing forward, and ultimately refusing to quit. Over the years that compounds into a career. I think a lot of people confuse “talent” with being instantly amazing, when tbh an equally, if not more important talent is having the patience to stick with it long enough to actually get great.
Hollow Knight: Silksong, Team Cherry's long-awaited follow-up, will officially launch September 4. That's so soon! #Gamescom2025

I hope every up and coming artist (and established ones too tbh) sees that I don’t have the most monthly listeners in the world, my twitter and instagram aren’t just dumb popping engagement wise (in fact they’re kinda low) but I can sell out arenas because the music means something to people more than just a fun bop
you don’t have to be part of the mainstream narrative/industry hype cycles, or constantly be in viral conversations, trending topics, or media discourse to have an impact on people in real life
majority of the online shit is paid for and faked anyway so don’t get caught up in those metrics. make music for yourself and focus on your fans. rest of the shit will take care of itself.
“I’ve never heard of’em and no one I know listens to’em” says a typical casual music listener who’s never actually paid for anything they listen to. If streaming wasn’t a thing, they’d just listen to their local top 10 radio station.
Don’t let people like this make you feel like your art doesn’t matter or you’re failing at your craft. I know artists with less than 10k monthly listeners on Spotify making a living and selling out dive bars. People are narrow minded and only pay attention to viral, billboard charting, shade room music. Fuck’em.
