I am from Jamaica, so I have a slightly different perspective. Hear me out on this.
In 1972, Jamaica and the USA had essentially the same murder rate (10 per 100,000). Then Jamaica insituted a stricter gun ban than any in America. To obtain a license, required 18 months to 2 years of medical checks, background checks, training, testing, home inspection, etc... etc.. and cost about 2X the median annual income.
It was easier to just join the police force.
If you were found in possession of a gun, without being a licensed carrier, you could face up to life in prison... And that is without any additional crimes, putting gun possession on par with rape, in sentencing.
The result: Within 7 years, the Murder rate in Jamaica more than quadrupled. Over the next 30 years, it doubled again... Even now, it still has not dropped back down to below that 40 per 100,000.
Meanwhile in the USA, which went the opposite direction and now has more guns than it did in the 70s and half the states allow open and concealed carry without a license, The murder rate is on track to end 2026 at 4 per 100,000
So. Basically. People calling for gun control, want tens of thousands more Americans killed, every year.
Democrat Senator Elissa Slotkin says The SAVE America Act, which would mandate Voter ID and citizenship verification to vote, “would make it hard for any Democrat in any state to win any election.”
