@criticalurban Using ai is hilarious because if you ask any AI about zoning and density they will almost universally (4/5) tell you its the literal most important policy change that needs to happen in the US
@laughing747 People should have the option to live in a walkable city, drive a car, live in a small town with a walkable core, etc. In America that is not an option as the infrastructure is intentionally designed to force you to drive everywhere.
@Corbienest@jasonc_nc Do you understand that no urbanist disagrees with you? That allowing people to choose whether they live in an urban or rural environment (or low density suburb, as long as they pay for it themselves) is an "urbanist" position?
@Captain_C2@constans That's because you and everyone else is shopping at the same time because most people have to do it on their few days off or the evening and everyone has to drive everywhere so they have to load up on a bunch of food
@Captain_C2 "Horribly inefficient waste of time" because it's easier to get in your Goypod™ and go to Goymart™ and buy all your processed long shelf life food for one month so you can maximize your time working?
I walk or bike to lidl and get dinner... it's not hard
@NoCyclopathTO The incoming reply will be "Well firemen have to transport gear so they can't take the bus" as if that's a legitimate argument for depriving the entire populace of traditional human-centric infrastructure
@NoCyclopathTO I live in North America where cities were bulldozed and rebuilt intentionally in a way that forced everyone to drive a car for most trips.
@22kismetkenton@jasonc_nc@LinkofSunshine The question isn't "are 3 man engines less efficient" we know they are. The question is how much do 3 man engines quantifiably improve life safety and if that justifies the extra costs associated with it
@LinkofSunshine 3 is *possible* but not ideal at all. The biggest reason is NFPA codes that say firefighters can't enter burning buildings without at least 4 firefighters on scene (two in two out). Three people is often not enough to put a hoseline in service with obstacles and maneuvering
@Shoestring_Lab@SkavenHotep The point is you would have grocers within a quarter mile if your infrastructure wasn't intentionally designed to make you drive a car
