Master’s by Research Thesis submitted 🥳
The title is “Exploring different models of effort-based tasks to measure motivational states in mice”.
🐭
Thanks to Megan, Kate, Paul and Justyna for the celebrations today in the office 🤩
New paper alert! 🚨🎉
Megan Jackson (@MeganGJackson), Cate Marangoni (@CateMarangoni), and Foteini Xeni (@FwtXeni) recently had a paper published in Nature (@Nature), on a new behavioural task in mice.

Had great fun today presenting my poster and engaging in exciting conversations 🐭 “EFFORT-BASED DECISION-MAKING VERSUS SPONTANEOUS FORAGING TASKS REVEAL DIVERGENCE IN ANTIDEPRESSANT EFFECTS ON MOTIVATION IN MICE”
Interested in refinements of handling and habituation methods, housing and dosing techniques in rodents? 🐭🐀

Happy to share my latest paper! Investigating age-related apathy, we found behavioural changes in aged rats that contrasted with findings in aged mice! We find interesting changes in cognitive flexibility, but only from outside the operant box… https://t.co/pDgS0WRMal
Excited our new behavioural task is out now! https://t.co/hz6D0wO7Se. This task draws on a natural species-specific behaviour to measure motivational state in mice. Minimal training time and no restriction required. Suitable for phenotyping and drug screening. Check it out! 🐭
Great to share some of my thesis work at the PP&N Research Showcase yesterday. A lot of helpful feedback on my data and a big boost to be voted best presenter of the day 💫 🤓
(no, not everyone that attended had long brown hair and glasses!)
Excited to share a preprint of our new mouse behavioural task! @CateMarangoni@FwtXeni https://t.co/xcRjPbvzFf. With minimal training time and no physiological deprivation, we can measure the motivational state of mice by assessing their natural foraging behaviour.
There is more to celebrate in our group this month! We have two winners of the ELH 3Rs Awards 2024 in Scientific Category won by @Dr_Hinch and in Technical Category won by @Jules_bartlett 🥳🥳🤩🤩
