With domestic abuse, the spirit of the abused is battered, confidence is lost. Being in this state, being passive will not help, on the contrary. Self-preservation requires the confidence to leave. To any in that situation I would say, it will only get worse. Be careful, be safe.

Until you understand an abuser’s worldview, their behaviour will never fully make sense.

This is why domestic abuse can remain so difficult to recognise and make sense of, even for those living through it.

Human beings naturally try to find logic, consistency, and meaning in the behaviour of people they love and trust.

It can be deeply confusing to reconcile care and affection with behaviour that is also harmful, controlling, or cruel. Why would someone deliberately hurt the person they claim to love?

When you understand the belief system driving the abuse, one rooted in ownership, superiority, entitlement, and control, the fog can begin to lift.

The abuse stops looking like random anger, poor communication, insecurity, stress, or relationship difficulties and starts revealing itself as a pattern of domination and control.

That shift can be life changing because it allows you to stop blaming yourself for failing to fix something that was never yours to fix. It was never a communication problem, a mutual conflict, or a relationship issue waiting to be solved together.

It was a system of control, and the abuser was benefiting from it exactly as intended.

@visegrad24 It's horrifying. These cops were not the brightest bulbs. There is so much booze everywhere in the UK and drinking is such a primary social pastime, I often wonder about its effect.

@Adrien_B_A We had a large place in the western 'banlieu'. I would go to Paris as a teen and adored it, but it could tend to rattle my nerves after a while and it was good to get back to space and calm.

@dunce_patrol @Pepper_Rides @Interior I don't drive because my friends died in a car crash, I lived in cities like New York, recently 8 years in London. Many Europeans don't drive. Also don't like polluting the air with gas vehicles. Electric cars in the UK now, air is cleaner. Did drive for a short while & stopped.
