Little snippet from October's Reading Journal - three reasons why I love H. G. Well's writing. And yes, The Island of Doctor Moreau really did give me nightmares.
Heidi Klum and her husband Tom Kaulitz — dressed as Medusa and the Greek soldier she turned to stone — on why it’s still “important to do live art” amid the rise of generative AI:
“This is only good for the night. Tonight. Everything goes down the drain, so to speak, in the shower… There still needs to be people that create moments with real people.”
What bliss is this? Everyone else still asleep, rain tapping on the window, a cat on my lap, and I've just reached the opening chapters of The First Men in the Moon in my H. G. Wells collection
A very good start to November!
Part 2 of working my way through The Artist's Way. Definitely had to adapt the rules a bit but still got a lot from this process.
I really enjoyed having the encouraging teacher voice again. Took me back to the best Creative Writing lessons at Uni.

Reviewing 100 'classic' books based on nothing but my own precious opinion. Very satisfying to air my grievances against some of these books, *ahem* Atonement *ahem*

Little walk in Skipton Castle Woods today. Then lunch at the castle Inn and mooch round shops. Now home with plenty of snacks. Planning a Ghosts marathon tonight.
In short, my Saturday is better than yours
Re-reading Jurassic Park again. I love how the physical horror of the dino attacks is perfectly mirrored in the mental panic in the control room as the park engineers realise little by little that all their perfect security and safety measures have failed. It's brilliantly done
Re-reading the Wheel of Time, The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan - spoiler filled reaction and review.
I enjoyed WoT the first time round, but re-reading it is such a different and rewarding experience. I can see why people obsess about this series so much!

And it should be illustrated. Set in the 1930s/40s. Nick Frost should voice the North Polar Bear. BBC production. Broadcast on Christmas Eve. I've got it all figured out
Came across this amazing sculpture of Nelson, Lancashire's shield today. As far as town mottos go, 'By industry and integrity' is a rather good one, especially for a town born out of the industrial revolution
