@draiochta14 Oh for goodness sakes! Be a parent, teach your children values and respect. I grew up with toy guns, Barbies, but also with science toys, playing imaginary games outside with friends. I have raised a daughter who is successful. It is all about parenting or having role models.
@draiochta14 When I was growing up we played “Army”, war etc with fake guns. But we knew we were playing, it was not reality.Since there was no social media, or constant mass shootings it was not even an inkling in our thoughts. Today a totally different story. I hate guns. Times have changed
@draiochta14 My experiences are my own. I do not presume to speak for anyone. I am always reading articles and or watching FOX, CNN, BBC, etc. So I am up to date on items, and form my own opinions.
@draiochta14 I understand that. But, for me, a 63 year old strong willed woman who put herself through college, married for 40 years, beautiful daughter, and now 2 grandchildren,I have difficulty believing that people are blaming Barbie for their insecurities. Where were their families?
@draiochta14 Yes I read the article! (I loved my Barbie, talking Ken etc) So if you never had one, you can’t speak from personal experience how it affected your future self.
@draiochta14 And Barbie was? Maybe I am an outlier but I never compared myself to Barbie. Ya I felt chubby. But that was due to my skinny friends. I guess I had a strong sense of self in a family of 6.
@draiochta14 Yes. I look at the marketing the same way as Star Wars, and all the other movies that had huge marketing tie ins. For me I could care less. I always am intrigued by books that appeal to 0-99(Harry Potter), or movies that seem unreal to bring to the big screen.
@draiochta14 Yes, I am white. But my parents worked several jobs. I lived in a mixed community and never ever thought about racial issues between my friends who were black, Jewish, Protestant. We just had fun together. We played Barbies and GI Joe.
@draiochta14 Barbie came out the year I was born. I loved my barbies. I never felt locked into a body type based on the dolls. I had tons of fun with my imagination!
@terrydresbach2 #2 Is it the employer’s obligation to pay for the hours put into a portfolio? They can if they want, but should it be mandatory ,no.
There is not a one size fits all answer.
@terrydresbach2 I think the article was deleted. My point is people choose differs career paths. Some potential job positions require an interview or a demonstration of their skill. Artists may have to provide a portfolio of their work. Some people do a an internship which may not be paid.Cont’
