A new conference on a classic of cheap print, the so-called ‘Bibliothèque bleue’! Do have a look if you are interested in re-use, editing, publishing choices.
#bookhistory#ephemera
How shall a book for children look like? European authors and publishers didn’t know much about this in the 18C, when they ‘invented’ books for kids. So why not use something everyone knew? Like…almanacs!
This and many more transnational issues in the history of #childlit here👇
This beauty has eventually arrived! Honoured to be part of it and looking forward to reading the inspiring chapters by international experts of the history of #childlit

Eventually out! Delighted and honoured to have contributed, but, more importantly, eager to read Wendelin Sroka’s article on the transnational history of rooster primers 🐓📕
#bookhistory#histhed
Primers with woodcuts depicting roosters can be found also in Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, other Scandinavian countries and in the Baltic region. There is a translation for ‘rooster primer’ in many languages and this kind of ABC was labelled with that word.
Cheap print for children beyond the European focus in this interesting article.
Strikingly the illustration is tremendously similar to woodcuts usually printed in chapbooks and primers in English-speaking countries 👇
Ever spotted a book with the stamp of the Biblioteca Capitular y Colombina of Seville ("Colombina Biblioteca")? It s from Hernando Colon’s library, now dispersed. See below for a research project aiming to locate the items from this collection. Perhaps you can help!
