Are you a rancher that has to do farming on occasion? This field day is for you. We'll look at the cool season irrigated forage plots and discuss other irrigated forage options.
10 CT next Tuesday (Jun 9) in Valentine at the Middle Niobrara NRD. No RSVP needed. Message me w/ ?'s
Another really cool observation, we collared and put heifers without exposure to virtual fence in with cows that are trained on Friday, we moved their paddock on Monday. Heifers already seemed to have figured it out. @unlbeef
Pretty cool ! we recollared some cows, not virtually fenced in 9 months and they remembered how it works! After a week the pulse to audio cue ratio is still 99%. Meaning she turns to stay in virtual paddock when she hears the beep no pulse (electric shock) needed. @unlbeef
Well the smooth brome is already heading out at 8 inches but these oats look pretty good! The residue from winter strip grazing of sorghum Sudan has really paid off in terms of moisture management.
Oats and spring pea actually looking pretty good! Planted into sorghum Sudan that we strip grazed this winter. Ground cover is amazing and still a bit of soil moisture under it! Surprising as we are bone dry everywhere else @unlbeef
Want to see how others are using virtual fencing to improve their grazing management? Join our VF tour and see the different options first hand! June 16 and 17. Have to say I have been using VF and am amazed at the possibilities! https://t.co/f9dIxyOXBH
We are hosting a tour to see virtual fencing in action with two farm visits, a visit to our research station, seeing first hand 3 of the collar options and interacting with representatives from all the VF companies. @unlbeef https://t.co/f9dIxyOXBH
Nebraska Extension will host a free June 11 webinar, Management Options in Drought, to help producers navigate ongoing dry conditions and management decisions.

@narj_15 About the app or grazing rye? 😁 snap2graze recommendations are based on intensive grazing, goal is to keep it immature while optimizing performance. I would suggest you track what it says and what you did, and how you feel about the outcome, the. You can make future adjustments.
Introducing Snap2Graze!
A new web-based tool that estimates cereal rye forage biomass and suggested stocking rates from a single pasture photo. Just snap, upload, and get instant forage insights.

@CowBizGuy it gives you some grazing management options. Number one is that you could start grazing earlier. Number two is that you can Graze later into the season without concern of frost . Number 3 is that you can strip Graze in season and not worry about regrowth being a problem.
@CowBizGuy I played with that last year, it was really good actually! I was impressed with the regrowth! I think I would start at a foot of the prussic acid free. Biggest challenge is keeping it from getting too mature so starting earlier would make sense.
@CowBizGuy grazing management is going to be very important. Given the yield Sudan grass or sorghum Sudan are really good options. Everything else seems to have lower carrying capacity . The only downside is the prussic acid. I do a four paddock rotation and have about one cow an acre.
@CowBizGuy The the nursing calves with cows on sudangrass were 25lbs more at weaning than those managed on smoothbrome. Forage was not limited on brome, did rotational grazing with them as well.
@CowBizGuy It does add quite a bit of seed cost. If cows it does not seem to pay (we were grazing July to Sept). if stockers with the current price it would pencil. I have seen no N benefits so far, this will be year 4 and we will do a comprehensive soil analysis…
