燃えるような大きな一つの目をもつ、ケンタウロスに似た半人半馬であり、毛も皮膚もなく、全身肉が剥き出しの姿をしている。
これが現れると流行り病や旱魃などの災害が起こり、また作物を枯らす息を吐くという。

黄鮒【栃木県】

宇都宮市に伝わる縁起物。
昔、天然痘の流行時に黄色い鮒が釣れ、病に伏したものに食べさせたところ、治癒したという伝承があり、流行病除けとして、張り子で作ったものを主に正月、軒先に飾ったりするようになったもの。
９月２７日を黄鮒の日として制定している。
