Our founder, Jasvinder Sanghera @Jas_Sanghera_, has been awarded a Damehood in recognition of her tireless efforts and significant contributions to supporting victims of forced marriages and Honour Based Abuse. Congratulations Dame Jasvinder Sanghera!
Jasvinder founded Karma Nirvana in 1993 after escaping from a forced marriage, and after her sister’s death. The organisation has since become a beacon of hope and a critical resource for victims, providing a safe haven and advocating for legislative changes to protect those at risk. Under her leadership, Karma Nirvana has grown into a nationally recognised charity, instrumental in shaping policies and transforming lives.
Upon receiving the honour, Jasvinder expressed her gratitude:
“The overwhelming emotions I am currently experiencing upon receiving one of the highest honours possible in the United Kingdom cannot be adequately expressed. Being awarded a Damehood fills me with immense pride and gratitude."
"I reflect on the fact that many have perceived me as being without honour. I believe that my honour is their shame.”
Receiving the Damehood is a testament to Jasvinder’s unwavering commitment to justice and her exceptional contributions to society. Her work has not only supported victims but has also paved the way for long-term societal change and promoting human rights.

Social worker: She let him back in the house, even though there was an protective order in place.
Me: (a little bit snarky): Were you there when she let him? Did you see her open the door for him?
Social worker: No, no. I wasn't there. I didn't actual see it. He was just there when I went to the house.
Me: So given his history of violence, threats and control and given that the judge made the order against him, it would be better, and more accurate, to say "Dad chose to violate the court order" and not assume that "she let him back in" but to consider how this was a continuation of his pattern of abuse.

In line with the 5 #FASD Quality Statements developed in 2022, we are proud to be part of a Greater Manchester community that has taken huge steps to increase awareness of alcohol free pregnancies to ensure positive outcomes and healthy pregnancies.
GM have co-produced standard Maternity Alcohol Exposed Pregnancy (AEP) Operational Policy that ensures alcohol use is discussed and documented on three occasions during pregnancy.

In recent years, a woman has been killed by a man every 3 days in the UK on average, and yet most of their stories have gone unheard. The @guardian Killed Women Count project wants to help change that. Huge thanks to @CountDeadWomen for their vital work > https://t.co/a6cDhIWk66
The period from prenatal to three is the most critical window in all of human development: a time during which infants and toddlers lovingly apprentice alongside their parents (and other loved ones) as they learn what it means to be human.
This video is a beautiful illustration of the awesome responsibility we take on as parents.
You can’t miss the little tool belt. Or the hammering. But what I want you to notice here is neither. It’s this little one’s eyes.
Apart from a quick glance to observe dad’s actions, our hero’s eyes never leave his father’s face. Even when he himself begins to hammer.
The message being conveyed isn’t so much, “I can hammer too,” as much as it is, “Look, Dad, I’m just like you.”
Simply beautiful.
Thanks to hanny_masters for sharing this identical pair on IG.
@FatherMcKennaa Not only illegal, but class A. And alcohol, which arguably causes more harm than most other substances isn’t classified at all. There’s very little evidence to justify why drugs are classified the way that they are in the MDA.
@graceyoutreach And repeated pregnancy then further removals- adding new trauma to the existing. 4example mum+baby units wont take active substance users- which is exactly the type of support needed to help the people who want it. The limited support in pregnancy just disappears following birth.
This Christmas, thousands of homeless babies in Temporary Accommodation face an increased risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) due to not having a safe place to sleep.
This truly is a #SilentNightmare.

My son saw this poster in the men's changing rooms at the gym.
He thinks it's brilliant & so do I
Giving clear and easy suggestions for what to say to men who share nudes of their partners
And before anyone says it doesn't happen, it happens all the time
Not ‘just a student’. I’m a teacher of 16 years. A leader. A Governor. A trustee. A mum of 4. I have life experience, medical experience, first hand patient experience from the other side. I’ve watched my child die. I advocate. I escalate. I’m not ‘just a student’.

@Chris_Stark A few years ago it was brilliant, decent drama for buildups, big fights every couple of months and fantastic undercards. Now it’s over the top and obviously staged in the build up, empty promises and let downs and uninspiring match ups with boring undercards. It’s a real shame
@heatherstmw Don’t expect to have to know everything- allow yourself to learn and be taught. Trust the process and don’t be afraid to ask for support if you feel overwhelmed. And enjoy it- remember why you worked so hard to get where you are now.
Loving @jordannorth1 and @KatieThistleton on the @BBCR1 breakfast show this week. @gregjames they’ve managed to make the bread olympics look positively successful 😂 it’s normally chaos but this is another level and I’m here for it.
This is what industrial-scale hatemongering looks like.
