This glitter actually IS gold ✨ This is a very rare 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿, dating from around 𝟭𝟱 𝗕𝗖 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗗 𝟱. It was minted by the #𝗜𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗶 tribe and discovered by us during excavations at Mildenhall, #𝗦𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗸.
The beautiful coin features a right-facing horse with an intricate pellet on its chest – a symbol associated with this unusual coin variety. It was found placed in a palaeochannel – a silted-up tributary of the River Lark – potentially as an offering, providing an extraordinary glimpse into #IronAge ritual practices.
💰 Coins like these were crucial in trade, and this one is a spellbinding piece of ancient currency, linking us to the lives of the Iceni people in Britain. More in the #VirtualMuseum: https://t.co/6ptw4ey4ye
