I know this old man who use to be a thief and a crook in Pretoria, but decided to come back emakhaya.
Everyone was afraid of him, he then wanted to prove a point to everyone in the community that he has changed, he's a good guy.
He decided to get into the Taxi association and be a driver. But ke the problem started when he was not making enough money. This one time wavukwa ubugebengu and decided ukuthi uzoba yisela futhi, while doing rounds with his taxi he found amanye amadoda amadala standing near the street, wabuza “Niyahamba?”. Bathi no we just standing, wathi “Ooh! so nyim ophaphayo?” that time ubabheke ngo-S. Bathi we were not saying uyaphapha, but we were saying “Asihambi!!”. Abuze “So nimele ini? Ngiyahlanya ne?” he steps out of the taxi kuvele iGun, they saw how serious the situation was now “Ahy marn bhuti, we forgot ukuthi siyahamba. Sigugile bafo”. They had to pull that fake laugh, Bagibele baye eTown nge surprise.
He continued doing what he does, it was even hard to go to the tuckshop because if he shows up uyagibela uya eTown.
Every Sunday, he would park his taxi at church, even when the church is out you would hear church members singing till it was 8pm because if bayaphuma, bazogibela baye eTown, even if you stay nearby.
So this one time, when there was a car accident, people were hurt. Community members were all at the scene with the SAPS waiting for the ambulance. Hawu!! Yavela iTaxi, everyone ran to their homes. Only the police were left at the scene. Sathi sisabhekile we saw the SAPS members and also those who were hurt getting inside the taxi going to town, we heard the driver ethi, “Asambeni nizolima when we get to town”.
Already, one of those people was near to death. The driver told him to hold on, he will die when they arrives at town and he had to hold on because he was afraid that lo driver uzombulala yena self. When they got to town the guy died at the taxi rank after stepping out of the taxi. Abahlali saw that it means death was also afraid of this old man.
Abahlali didn't even go to the funeral, because if the taxi showed up after the funeral then some of them were going to be forced to go to town. 😭
In my community we had a teacher called Mr Maphosa, a retired soldier that went to teaching because he claimed he had a calling for it.
All the subjects he was teaching he always got 100%. But that 100% involved parents, if you fail then your family must explain why you failed. One time one of my classmates failed every subject, Mr Maphosa went to ask his family, “Ifuze bani le ngane?”. The father of the family thought intwana was excelling, “Obvious ifuze mina le ngane nge...”. While he was still talking Mr Maphosa waphonsa impama. “Since yamoshwa nguwe izolungiswa nguwe”.
Mr Maphosa would randomly call the father, “Why ngathi ubukele uZalo, inzalo yakho iyenzile iHomework?”. The father didn't rest because kubethwa yena and his son. The whole community was now afraid of Mr Maphosa.
I remember the time when the whole class failed an exam. UPhosa went house to house taking their TVs and leave them with Maths question papers. If the family wanted their television back, ingane kwakumele ithole 100%.
Months ended without them getting their TVs back and the community called a meeting for Mr Maphosa, abanye planning ukuthi they will beat him up. Mr Maphosa arrived in that meeting and gave everyone a class work, abezali beloko bethi, Eish!.. hayi ngeke kodwa!” but yet writing.
When the year ended the whole community knew mathematics and physics, when Mr Maphosa showed up you would hear a person singing, “2 times 2 is equal to 4”.
At church umfundisi wayeshumayela using Maths, “uJesu uyakwazi ukukunikeza u9, kodwa owakho kube ngu 3x3, waka makhelwane kube ngu 5+4. Omunye kube ngu 10-1. Kodwa nonke nino 9. So bazalwane yekan ukuzifanisa nabanye abantu.”
I remember when one mother died without completing iHomework yomntwana and Mr Maphosa requested that they bury her with a Mathematics question paper kwathiwa she will finish it off eZulwini.
Now as I type this most kids are in varsity because of Mr Maphosa. 🔥🔥
