The easy narrative is that Keaton Wagler was an unseen, off-circuit recruit.
The real story is a lot more complicated and explains the imperfect art of modern recruiting.

NEWS: An update in the age-based eligibility lawsuit in Hamilton County, OH

This seems like a fair deal for both sides.
Michigan can always fire him even if the second year vests. Just have to pay him for the year, which is small potatoes to a place like Michigan.
Basically an interim deal but with some financial protection if he meets expectations.
So awesome that the SEC spent years begging for congressional help, got it, and when that deal makes them give away even an ounce of power/$$/leverage they threaten to blow it all up. They will drive the rest of the enterprise off a cliff if it means they can keep making money.
It is a critical juncture in the history of the college sports industry.
Without passage of a revised Senate bill, SEC leaders are preparing “Plan B” - a self-governing model in which the league enforces its own rules and perhaps even competes against its only own members.

They recruit you. Play you out of position and in an unknown uncomfortable role.
Only for him to get to play HIS GAME and thrive. Shoutout to him!!
Yeah money is a problem (even though in a semi-uncapped world, you can theoretically raise more). And even with more roster spots, if you already have a starting PG you like, you're not paying market value for another - and a player is probably not going to risk sitting the bench if they have decent pro options, even if those pro options pay a bit less
