It’s a cool and cloudy autumn Sunday and I can’t shake the feeling that I should be wearing flannel and drinking beer while watching football.
I blame my Midwestern formation.
When I hear “you that have no money, come buy and eat!” I have many thoughts, but the one that occurs to me now is that plants turn the sun into food for us, which we could never do for ourselves.
We could not breathe, drink or eat without this good land.
@AlyssaKayeB We’ve never tried to do the tooth fairy for the same reasoning (seriously tho. Why do grown ups think they can just lie to kids?!). We accidentally convinced our kid that when she loses a tooth she has to pay us for it’s disposal. It was a joke we’re now trying to undo.
Remember this bug?
The spotted lanternfly, an invasive predator insect, is being sighted again in New York City and New Jersey, and the government wants us to kill it. https://t.co/qj7hiwcDGR
8 millennials sitting together on the beach. My kid does something cute and we want to take a picture.
Not a single one of us has a phone on hand.

“‘Weep! Weep!’ calls a toad from the water’s edge. And I do.
If grief can be a doorway to love, then let us weep for the world we are breaking apart so we can love it back to wholeness again.”
- Robin Wall Kimmerer
O look, look in the mirror,
O look in your distress;
Life remains a blessing
Although you cannot bless.
O stand, stand at the window
As the tears scald and start;
You shall love your crooked neighbor
With your crooked heart.
- W. H. Auden
E is turning 4 tomorrow. This evening has been non-stop requests for all things pink, glittery, and unicorn-y and I don’t really know how this is my child, but I’m so here for her.
Today I’m grateful for the finally-warm weather. For itself, yes, but also because Covid is among us and it’s finals week. Will I make it through? TBD.
