As we continue to fight #COVID19, I want to recognize the amazing @nyulangone#geriatrics and #pallcare division physicians, nurses, and social workers who have risen to the occasion to care for New Yorkers. In the past three weeks we have:
(2/2) I’m sad to leave great colleagues & the wonderful #NYUGeriPall program, but am excited to continue collaborating in a research capacity moving forward.
(1/2) After 8 terrific years as Division Director of Geriatrics & Palliative Care at @nyugrossman, I am taking a new role as senior research scientist at @NCQA as of today.
New fellows have started. Tifanny Lee rotated with us as a resident from NYU Brooklyn. It’s uplifting to see her enthusiasm for Geriatrics! #NYUGeriatrics@CBlaumMD
Graduation looks a bit different this year, but we could not be more proud of the accomplishments of our #geriatrics and #hpm fellows who have gone above and beyond and shown tremendous growth this fellowship year.
Thrilled for AGS to recognize Dr. Roy for her work in growing this QI program to the benefit of @nyulangone patients during her fellowship year, and excited to see where her research endeavors take her in the future.
Congratulations to our geri fellow Swathi Roy, MD, who was awarded the @amergeriatrics 2020 Best Abstract Award in the category of Clinical Innovation & Quality Improvement for “EmpoweRing elder Novel Intervention (ERNI): An Innovative Method to Increase the Geriatrics Workforce”
Developed by Nina Blachman, Michael Perskin, and Yael Zweig and in collaboration with NYU psychiatry, nursing, and rehab medicine, the ERNI program identifies Tisch patients experiencing delirium and pairs them with student volunteers to address the delirium.
Congrats Nina Blachman MD, MHPE on her Outstanding Jr Educator Award from @AmerGeriatrics ! She is a mentor and wonderful role model. Her enthusiasm for #geriatrics & #mededu is palpable! @nyugrossman@nyulangone https://t.co/EcYbq32DBc
In the hospital setting, she led the development of ERNI (Empowering eldeR Novel Innovations), a partnership that connects volunteers with older patients to address delirium. Many vols are students gaining meaningful exposure to geriatrics and care for older adults.

We’ve been highlighting our fellows’ experiences during #COVID19; a couple of them discussed their impressions with NYULH Director of #PalliativeCare, Joe Lowy. Watch the video interview here: https://t.co/TqoVCyNX5Q
Thanks to our 2019-20 Geriatrics and Palliative Care fellows who have shown incredible strength & dedication in answering the call to care for #COVID19 patients here in NYC, the epicenter of the US outbreak of the virus.
"I never appreciated face to face consults and conversations with patients and families as much as I do now. When giving bad news, having that interaction makes all the difference."
