@Olympics Simone de Beauvoir "briefly lost her teaching job after being accused of sexually abusing some of her students. She and her long-time lover, Jean-Paul Sartre...campaigned for the release of people convicted of child sex offenses" (according to Wikipedia).
@kesleeman What a helpful addition to a debate that often feels very one sided in the media. The care home analogy illustrated one of the issues with assisted suicide so clearly. Thank you for speaking in such a measured and caring way.
@MartineOborne@churchofengland So has God suddenly stopped calling a particular group of people whom he seems to have called (& who have faithfully served him and his people) in the past? Has he suddenly come into line with your particular way of assessing whether people are suitable for ministry or not?
@sainsburys I was told last week by my delivery man, that substitutions are now being decided by AI. The 'intelligence' of today's substitution made me laugh: a plastic washing up bowl (to hold water) is substituted with a colander (with holes - to let water through). CLASSIC!!
@Psephizo Peter Williams' words on the genius of Jesus seem relevant: "The tendency amongst intellectuals and academics is to make things very complex. Jesus aims at simplicity. He actually accuses the academics of his dayβthe Phariseesβof taking away the keys of knowledge."
@charliebelllive Given the huge positive impact that Alpha has had in getting a wide range of anglican churches involved in evangelism, and the number of churches planted/grafted by HTB, it's hard to see why you think it's 'beyond absurd'. It's not him who's put the CofE on a divisive course.
@PeterOuld I have to agree... slightly bizarre. Lots of promise showing... but that writing was just plain weird for a DW episode, even a Christmas one. Shame after the excellent recent Tennant-Tate offerings.
I was raised in the Church of England & trained at a C of E seminary. This vote breaks my heart. It rejects the authority of scripture & far from blessing people who (like me) experience same-sex attraction it points them toward unrepentant sin that bars people from God's kingdom
