@fantasmasolita @EmmaTolkin sry for so many replies, but as for ADA, im not sure. a lot of captions are intended for Deaf/HoH ppl, but if they don't understand the language, it's no different than able-hearing ppl who dont know it either. i think the only actual requirement is to have captions period

@fantasmasolita @EmmaTolkin as a captioner, i can query it if things definitely seem important and we can contact the client for confirmation, but a lot of the time they say that translations don't need to be sourced as they weren't already provided

@lazylariat @EmmaTolkin with spirited away, and many anime shows/films, english subs are translated from the japanese audio. if you had japanese audio it would be ok but if english audio, that's where it's incorrect as the dub isn't a literal translation but it's the same subs used regardless of audio

@fantasmasolita @EmmaTolkin a 'speaks in __' thing is due to the client (netflix, disney etc) saying translations aren't required for it, especially if it's 'not plot pertinent' - i once captioned terminator dark fate and one lady speaks loads of spanish but was advised not to get it translated 🤪🙃
