"Why don't they just stop?" It sounds simple. But it simply is not easy.
Addiction is not a matter of willpower. It can affect anyone regardless of background, profession, or age, and effective treatment looks different for every person.
Understanding addiction is the first step toward changing how we respond to it.
If you or someone you love is struggling, support is available.

Recovery looks different for everyone. But one thing is true for all of it โ it starts with a single decision.
The version of you that is healthy, present, and free is not out of reach. That future is built one day at a time, and it begins the moment you ask for help.
You deserve to get there. We are ready when you are.

The Canadian Centre for Addictions attended the Pri-Med Canada Conference in Toronto, joining primary care professionals from across the country for three days of evidence-based clinical education and meaningful conversation.
Addiction and mental health belong in every primary care setting. Events like Pri-Med remind us how important it is to keep these conversations going among professionals, who are often the first point of contact for people struggling.
We are grateful for the connections made and the opportunity to represent our community at this important event.

THC drinks are marketed as a sophisticated, healthy alternative to alcohol. But what the ads leave out is the full picture.
Liquid THC absorbs differently from other cannabis products, making the effects unpredictable and harder to control. Regular use can lead to dependence faster than most people expect, and withdrawal is a recognized medical condition with real physical and psychological symptoms.
If you or someone you love is struggling with cannabis use, support is available.

Many people who struggle with addiction aren't broken; their brain simply isn't suited to the world we've built.
Dr. Anna Lembke, addiction psychiatrist at Stanford University, breaks down the science of dopamine and why understanding it is the first step toward recovery.

40% of all drug-related emergency room visits come from a single substance.

For a long time, the story around addiction felt dark, messy, and suffocating. But recovery often begins with changing the story we tell about ourselves and about our pain.
In her TEDx talk, Jo Harvey Weatherford shares how a shift in perspective transformed her journey from addiction to healing.
Addiction is not a moral failure. It is a response to pain, and healing is always possible.
If you or someone you love is struggling, support is available.

This April, our Roots of Recovery community came together at Volt Raceway for a day of go-karting, axe-throwing, and bowling. There was friendly competition, a few questionable driving techniques, surprising axe-throwing talent, and enough laughter to fill the whole track. The day wrapped up with a testimonial-style meeting where members shared their stories and stood beside one another.
Events like this exist because recovery is not just about getting through it. It is about rediscovering joy, connection, and realizing you are sitting at a table where you belong. Not perfect, not polished, but real, fun, and full of moments worth celebrating.
We are grateful to everyone who came out and made this day so special.
If you or someone you love is ready to take the next step, our team is here to help.

Many of us develop ways to cope early in life, but those habits don't always grow with us.
Comedian and podcast host Theo Von has been open about his struggles with addiction and the moment he realized his old survival tools were no longer enough.
Sometimes the hardest part is recognizing that you need a different kind of support.
If something feels off, it's okay to reach out.

Alcohol and mental health are more closely connected than many people realize.
What can feel like relief in the moment may worsen anxiety, depression, impulsive behavior, and emotional distress over time. Talking more openly about this connection can help people recognize the signs earlier and seek the support they need.
If you or someone you love is struggling, help is available.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that mental health struggles are not always visible.
Many people seem fine on the outside, while dealing with stress, anxiety, or emotional pain internally. These challenges can also be closely connected to substance use and addiction, even when they're not seen.
Support, understanding, and early intervention can make a real difference.
You donโt have to go through this alone. Call us today.
