Following the demolition of the AMTS workshop earlier this year, the ongoing demolition of the Navrangpura Bus terminal must catalyse critical conversations, on what looks to be a bleak future of the status of mid-20th century modern architecture in India.

In early 2025, the AMTS workshop was demolished. It was elegant in its design & efficiently facilitated the upkeep of the AMTS buses. This sparks a recurring discussion of modernist buildings in the 21st century. These structures deserve to be recognized, advocated for & listed!

The task involved developing a masterplan & design of the buildings. Administrative offices are placed on a mezzanine overlooking 2 acres of the workshop area. The structure has RCC folded plates, allowing natural light & ventilation.

Designed for the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service, the main workshop and bus yard sit on a site covering 10 acres in the heart of the city.
