Premier Smith-Chiefs who support MOU: former Chief now CPC MP Billy Morin, former Chief Jim Boucher, former Band Councillor Chris Sankey, Métis Dave Lamouche, Chief George Arcand Jr., Chief Tony Alexis, Chief Cody Thomas, Chief Kelsey Jacko, Chief Delbert Wapass, Stephen Buffalo!
Powerful scene of unity amongst Treaty chiefs, Treaty holders and allies at Alberta legislature this afternoon rallying against Premiere Smith’s @ABDanielleSmith Bill 54 (which was passed yesterday). The Bill threatens Indigenous rights, sovereignty and the very Treaties this country and the province of Alberta was founded on. Bill 54 opens the path for Alberta to separate from Canada. But Treaty chiefs say it’s not going to happen on their watch.
The federal government’s controversial Bill C-5 is now law.
But Pam Palmater says no political words can counter the fact that the legislation is probably unconstitutional.

Happy Indigenous Peoples Day! 🧡 Reconciliation is not a one-day event and there are many ways to honour First Nation, Métis, and Inuit folks and communities throughout the year. What are you doing today to continue to advance reconciliation?
UN-BE-LIEV-A-BLE. The audacity of him to say this with a straight face when he blatantly violates First Nation rights and the constitution. After years of racist comments about First Nations, this lacks in sincerity and substance. When you respect First Nation rights - including free, prior & informed consent - then... maybe. #firstnations #NIPD2025 #indigenous
The Chiefs of Ontario are hosting a hybrid legal update and discussion for First Nations Leadership and technicians on Bill 5, on June 16, 2025, at 6:00 PM ET at the Holiday Inn Peterborough Waterfront Hotel (Regency Room A).
"I'd like to run and hide," Alberta's Indigenous Minister said today.

'I want my mom.'
Elle Harris, daughter of Morgan Harris, speaks to reporters about her mom and how she’s feeling following the announcement of remains discovered at the Prairie Green Landfill.
I just had a good call with President Trump. Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border.
In addition, Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada- U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering. I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million.
Proposed tariffs will be paused for at least 30 days while we work together.
