It’s really sad that some of my colleagues cited “lack of information” for their no vote.
There was a subject matter hearing on the issue and there’s plenty of information out there. The amount of straw man arguments used was incredible. Very sad indeed. Trumpism won this vote.
Yesterday’s vote on this resolution in the council was horrifying and I’m still feeling ashamed of that discussion and the outcome of it. We deserve better leadership.

"Craven collapse when the moment calls for courage is a (city) council specialty, their go-to move."
@NeilSteinberg on the #ChicagoIndiaResolution & the City Council's past failures.

#ChicagoIndiaResolution - Resolution R2020-583 has both congressional support and language pulled directly from @POTUS statement directed at India's government.
The Human Rights choice is obvious. Vote Yes. #FarmersProtest
I support the #ChicagoIndiaResolution because it "rejects violence in the name of any faith, condemns all supremacist thought, calls for an end of divisions along faith lines." Democracy, equality, & human rights are enduring 🇺🇸 + 🇮🇳 values. Thank you @ChiAlderwoman !
Proud to support the #ChicagoIndiaResolution honoring India's independence & condemning attacks on its ethnic & religious minorities, incl. Muslims. Chicago is a sanctuary city that aspires to be inclusive & this reflects our commitment to human rights.

City Council resolution denouncing discrimination in India should be a no-brainer
Chicago. We have a chance to do the right thing here. Let’s call our alderpeople and make sure they vote yes for the #ChicagoIndiaResolition#FarmersProtests
