<<<Battleship Clash in I.EXP.NJ7: Rooks and Kings vs. Algorithmic Warfare>>>
Date: 01.02.2025
In what has been described as the most significant battleship engagement to date in EVE: Frontier, the forces of Rooks and Kings (RnK) clashed with Algorithmic Warfare (AWAR) and their allies, Heavy Metal (HEAVY), in a fierce confrontation within the Trinary Accord capital system of I.EXP.NJ7.
<<The Build-Up to Conflict>>
For weeks, RnK had been conducting raids into AWAR territory, their skilled fleet maneuvering through contested space with impunity. This led to a decisive response from AWAR and HEAVY, culminating in a strategic engagement aimed at countering the growing threat.
“The engagement with RNK was something I was looking forward to,” said Ergod, the fleet commander of AWAR. “Although the circumstances of that encounter weren’t my choice, it just happened as I was FC’ing a mining fleet.”
What initially seemed like an ordinary mining operation quickly transformed into a full-scale defensive effort. AWAR forces had to rapidly pivot to battle readiness, calling in reinforcements and distributing last-minute modifications to ensure they could mount a formidable challenge. “I knew how badly we were outmatched, yet I threw that ping anyway,” Ergod reflected. “Without much expectation, soon after, pilots started hopping on voice, curious about the response.”
<<The Battle Unfolds>>
As AWAR and HEAVY prepared their fleet, a tactical bait was set in motion. Seven battleships and support craft from AWAR and HEAVY faced off against RnK’s fleet of five battleships and additional support.
“We send our first bait, a Grus,” Ergod recounted. “Tacklers warp in, but we were looking for the escalation. I undocked second as the bait… there they all warped in, in formation, magnificent sight.”
However, RnK anticipated the move. “Eldareth was able to steer his Grus beneath the enemy lines such that occlusion and cross-fire led to difficulties with damage application and friendly fire,” explained Lord Maldoror of RnK. This maneuver proved critical, forcing AWAR and HEAVY into a difficult firing position. The intensity of the exchange was evident as ships on both sides took heavy damage.
“With loud railguns blasting crazy damage from both sides, yet that Grus was good. It moved under, I knew the damage application was going to be superior,” Ergod acknowledged, recognizing the skill of RnK’s execution.
<<Turning Points and Tactical Withdrawals>>
As the battle raged on, the first major loss for AWAR was a battleship, a pivotal moment in the skirmish. In an ironic twist, the kill was credited to friendly fire within AWAR’s ranks. Meanwhile, three Caruda and another Grus from AWAR also fell under RnK’s precise targeting.
“The three remaining AWAR and HEAVY battleships of Vode, DakkanUdan, and Faeltagen escaped through a locked Smart Gate, where RnK could not directly follow,” detailed Lord Maldoror.
Rather than pressing for a total rout, RnK sought an alternative resolution. “After various attempts by RnK to encircle them, RnK’s John and AWAR’s Ergod spoke and arranged the safe return of the remaining three battleships,” Lord Maldoror revealed.
This level of mutual respect between adversaries is a breath of fresh air in the war-torn landscapes of EVE: Frontier. “Much respect for this group,” Ergod concluded. “It was all gf.”
<<Aftermath and Future Engagements>>
While AWAR suffered significant material losses, their fleet commander remained philosophical. “A pricey lesson, but to me, these battleships are a fair price. I am not emotional about the ships even if I FC’d and Co-FD’d ops to mine them.”
On the other side, RnK acknowledged the resilience and adaptability of their foes. “Both sides look forward to their use in future engagements,” said Lord Maldoror, signaling that the conflict between these rival forces is far from over.
This historic battle not only showcased the evolving strategies and counterplays between some of the most formidable fleets in the game, but also set the stage for future engagements that will undoubtedly shape the balance of power on the Frontier.

Have you ever seen a swarm of ferals, traveler? Not like the group we pushed off back at the Hadron Gap - a proper swarm. A "blot out the sun" swarm. A "make your peace" swarm.
The individual ferals, the ones disconnected from their hive, they're harmless. They've got guns, sure - but plenty of things on the Frontier have guns. The swarms though, they've got something going on in there that we don't. Their minds aren't quite human, aren't quite machines, they're something else entirely. An amalgamation of every bit of intelligence their hive and every hive they've ever met has collected over gods knows how many years. They think differently than any other living thing - see differently.
It's something in the way they move, the way they speak to each other - oh yes, you can hear them talking. You'll pick it up in your comms link, that's how you'll know they've turned their attention to you. They don't care about trying to scare you, but something about how calmly they do their business is terrifying regardless. Their motion is so smooth, the coordination of their attacks so seamless, it's like music. They don't hit you as much as they wash over you, an effeverscent stream of fire that disassembles the ship around you, and then you.
Yeah yeah, I know what you're thinking. Everyone hears stories about hotshot pilots who go diving into hives and come out loaded with riches. I suspect most of those riches were pilfered from the wrecks of ships who got too close, or taken from lesser hives and just embellished to sound impressive at one of the many dives dotting the deep Frontier. I can guarantee you - the pilots who contest with Golem-class swarms don't come back in one piece. The ones who contest with Tiamat-class swarms just don't come back.
How do I know? Friend, I wish I didn't. I once took a fleet into a nest near an old Exclaver weapons depot. Thirty-six vessel raiding fleet went in and woke up the Golem-class swarm we didn't realize was still sleeping there. One ship came back - mine.
My advice to you: if you ever encounter a swarm, a proper swarm, just make sure you're faster than the other guy.

With over 9 years of time spent on the Frontier, we’re incredibly honored and excited to dive into your feedback. Your experience helps shape the future of the Frontier, and we hope to see you back in the vast expanse very soon.
Stay tuned, riders—there's much more ahead!
There are places out there that people just don't go. As much as the Exclavers tried to strip the old world bare, there are still some corners they weren't willing to touch. It's not ferals, or even other bios - both of those answer to high energy matter just the same as everything else. Hell, even the ferals can be dissuaded from coming back if you hit them hard enough. They learn, eventually.
But there are dangers greater than just man and machine out there, and there are darker places in the Frontier than feral hives. There are things that aren't quite living, aren't quite dead. Computational sarcophagi for living minds whose bodies aren't even bones anymore. Thinking machines so old and engrained into their star systems that the orbits seem to flex and breathe. Necrotic brains infused with data that isn't human anymore - hasn't been in a long time - but thinks it is anyway.
You'll hear them before you see them. It sounds like noise at first, but once you sort through the junk data you start to hear the screaming. Get close enough and that signal is strong enough to tear more than your sensors apart. I've heard of warships split down the middle from the pure panicked desperation of the nontranscendants. Crude metal hands made from whatever their comprehension allows them to ambulate scratching and clawing at vessels, trying desperately to get inside. Trying to undo what they did.
Maybe they were made to believe they might wake up someday, fully transcendant from their brittle flesh. Maybe they thought they'd be made new with eyes that could see the edge of the universe and minds that could comprehend the complexity of creation. I don't know what they were told when they committed their consciousnesses to those algorithmic tombs, but somehow I doubt they were prepared for the reality of it. The informational decay. The encryption soup. Reduced from individuals to a frothing miasma of writhing code, feverishly trying to maintain identity. They removed the meat, but the calculations haven't changed - just the interface. Based on what I've heard, it is agonizing.
So yeah, there are sectors I'm not interested in ever traveling through. It's enough to deal with bad actors that you can put your hands on and put lead through. It's something altogether different to fight ghosts. Be sure my friend - those ships they tear open, that's not wanton destruction. They've convinced themselves they can be made whole again, if only they could get back what they lost - not willing to realize they're not compatible with it any longer. They don't care about the ships - they want the meat inside them.

"For reasons unknown, Frontier’s galaxy has been malformed by the presence of the Trinary - three supermassive black holes bound in an endless dance. The gravitational force of the Trinary has a radical impact on how the entire galaxy is formed, as each celestial body is affected by their immense magnitude."
