To date, there have been over 30,000 cord blood transplants throughout the world, and NCBP has provided cord blood units for nearly 20 percent of those transplants. #WorldCordBloodDay
Since 1992, NYBC's National Cord Blood Program (NCBP) has worked to find and provide appropriate hematopoietic transplants for patients who have no matched bone marrow donors.
Last week, Dr. Gail Roboz of Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian, and Dr. Sergio Giralt of Memorial Sloan Kettering stopped by "Good Morning America" to talk with @RobinRoberts about advances in bone marrow transplants and the need for more young donors.
The new advancement in the use of "cord blood" is particularly significant for people of color, who are least probable to find a donor for a bone marrow transplant.
