That’s a whole lotta neechies standing on a stage celebrating @WabKinew and the Manitoba NDP win. No matter what comes next, that’s a pretty important night for a lot of people.
We started our campaign believing in you – the people of Manitoba.
And in return, so many of you put your faith in us. You came out to support us – some for the very first time. You made calls & knocked doors. You voted.
From the bottom of my heart – Thank you. Merci. Miigwech.
Little Cordelia Martin-Langan loves to dance, according to her grand-aunt Neena Durocher-Guy.
Neena took this video after making a ribbon dress and taking the 19-month-old to her first powwow in Muskoday First Nation, Sask. in early August.
Breaking News! The Canadian Human Rights Tribunal has just approved the $23.4Billion compensation agreement for children, youth and families affected by Canada’s discriminatory conduct towards First Nations children, youth and families. Link to decision coming soon!
Why won’t Manitoba Premier Stefanson search the landfill? The federally funded feasibility study said it was feasible. Toronto Police Service spent months searching one of the city’s main garbage sites for the body of Nathaniel Brettell. They found him. https://t.co/iN6ab593sr
My heart is in my throat. What’s happening in Winnipeg at the Brady Landfill blockade is so much more than meets the eye. The prospect of people being forcibly removed by police with an injunction; the Native women’s bodies in the dumps; their daughters demanding justice & on the frontlines; the bureaucratic coldness. It’s a catalyst moment for the inertia of the MMIWG genocide.
“Toronto police officers scouring a gigantic city dump for months… the largest of its kind in the history of Toronto, involving hundreds of officers and multiple units, with some officers putting in volunteer hours.”
Open and outward racism goes unchecked toward our Indigenous family in the USA & normalized on @espn by people like announcer John Anderson who viciously mocks pro hockey player @ZachWhitecloud’s name. This kind of behavior should be punished & called out for the racism it is.
Speaking to the London Times in 1996, Prince said, “We all have a purpose within us. We are all put here for a reason. My talent is God-given, but the music is made by me. I make the choices that make the music.”
Happy Jim Thorpe Day!
In 1973, President Richard Nixon proclaimed April 16th "Jim Thorpe Day" in recognition of his accomplishments. Thorpe (1887-1953) was Sac & Fox/Potawatomi.
He won Gold Medals for the Pentathlon and Decathlon at the 1912 Olympics.

Her name is Linda Beardy. She was a mom. Mourning for her, her family, but especially for her children. We must wrap our arms around them. Canada must do better. No more stolen sisters.
35 bodies were found behind our residential school. A water line broke and the bodies of children were uncovered during the repair. The reserve moved houses from that area to preserve the site.
This statement has been disproven: "not a single actual unmarked grave is known to have been found — either at Kamloops, or any of the other First Nations communities".
Using words like mysticism or ignoring elders accounts helps your stance in what way? We never had books. All of our knowledge is handed down via stories and oral teachings.
I knew the woman whose baby was thrown into a furnace. She was my grandmother's friend and neighbor. She lived a secluded life and didn't trust many people. I rarely saw her away from her home.
Many survivors had to "prove" their abuse with hospital or school records. Many of them did because their compensation was based on the severity of their abuse. After my grandma went through this traumatizing legal experience she gave up.
She lost the life in her and she became depressed and withdrawn. It was hard to watch her decline. An older person shouldn't have had to relive those experiences.
Sometimes I wondered why I was born into a community that was plagued with trauma. Maybe this is why. To tell these stories and to honour the memory of my ancestors.
I am far from what you'd consider "woke". Let us finish our searches before drawing conclusions. There were over 130 residential schools across Canada and this isn't going to happen over night.
