Continuing from the last Comic, here is something showing how the huge amount of criticism and rejection we face for our ADHD symptoms can not only prevent us from getting better, but also teach us bad coping mechanisms - and how it might affect us even now in our daily life.
This is one of the symptoms I struggle with the most, but something I never realized was ADHD related until my recent diagnosis. I would always get so mad/disappointed in myself when I couldn’t follow conversations and when my responses would get lost in my head.
I literally almost failed one of my senior classes in high school because a teacher didn’t like that I didn’t participate in group discussions. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to participate, it was that I was always so lost by the time the conversation got to the third person.
With ADHD, a lot of what we do or go through can be misinterpreted - by others but also by ourselves if we get told something often enough.
This is the first part of my series hoping to clear up wrong assumptions and to help you find the words to communicate.
Hope they help! ✨
