Basic Science Course Next Modules – Open for Registration

PGY 3 and 4 residents, as well as other interested participants, are invited to register for the next sessions (Modules 3 and 4) of the COA Basic Science Course. Registration fee includes both the fall and spring virtual modules.

The 16th Annual International Congress on Shoulder & Elbow Surgery (ICSES), taking place in Vancouver from September 22-25, 2026, opens with International Day on Tuesday, September 22 - a dynamic kickoff that brings together leading shoulder and elbow societies from around the world.

As part of the International Day program, the Canadian Shoulder & Elbow Society (CSES) is hosting a dedicated meeting featuring experts from across the country.

Thank you to everyone who visited the Robert W. Jackson Arthroscopy Collection at the recent Annual Meeting in St. John’s. This remarkable display highlighted the legacy of one of Canada’s true orthopaedic pioneers and marked the launch of the COA’s new Legacy Keeper Program.

A special thank you to Sanofifor their generous sponsorship and support of this inaugural Legacy Keeper Event, helping us preserve and share the stories, artifacts, and achievements that have shaped Canadian orthopaedics. Introducing the 2027 Program Chair: Dr. Prism Schneider

We’re delighted to announce Dr. Prism Schneider as Program Chair for the 2027 COA Annual Meeting in Calgary. A nationally recognized leader in orthopaedic trauma and a champion of collaborative, high‑impact research, Dr. Schneider brings a sharp strategic lens and a deep commitment to elevating Canadian orthopaedics. Her leadership will guide the development of a thoughtful, forward‑looking program as planning gets underway in the months ahead.

We also extend congratulations to Drs. Mallika Makkar and Ujash Sheth on their appointments as Program Chairs for the CORA (residents) and CORS (research) tracks and meetings respectively. Together, this group will shape a dynamic, integrated program at next year’s Annual Meeting.

Announcing the COA’s 2027 ABC Travelling Fellows

We’re pleased to share that Drs. Maryse Bouchard and Jarret Woodmass have been selected as the 2027 ABC Travelling Fellows.

Dr. Maryse Bouchard (University of Toronto, SickKids Hospital) is a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon with a focus on foot and ankle surgery, limb deformity, trauma, and medical device and software design.

Dr. Jarret Woodmass (University of Manitoba, Pan Am Clinic) is a shoulder and elbow surgeon whose work spans complex reconstruction, arthroscopy, and translational research aimed at improving upper‑extremity outcomes.

Both are active contributors to COA committees and subspecialty society leadership, helping advance national education, programming, and member initiatives.

They will represent the COA on next year’s international tour, joining five colleagues from the American Orthopaedic Association for a multi‑week journey through leading centres in the UK and South Africa. Their selection reflects outstanding clinical leadership, academic excellence, and a commitment to advancing Canadian orthopaedics on the global stage.

More details about their 2027 tour will be shared as planning progresses. Please join us in congratulating Drs. Bouchard and Woodmass on this tremendous achievement.
