@cytopathology To do liquid-based ROSE, I think you have to use Cytorich red or make other adjustments that are not able to be supported by Hologic for their ThinPrep machines.
@cytopathology If there is any modification of a device, you have to do validations, each done individually by each lab…. The system inhibits a productive evolution of the field.
@cytopathology It can be difficult to develop new ways of using equipment in Cytology. There’s now a CAP checklist question about modifications of manufacturers’ devices. You can’t depend on industry to make an ideal device or set of FDA-cleared instructions.
@AidanFenix Actually does not have the sharp demarcation of Cytopathologists’ intranuclear cytoplasmic inclusion’s. I wish some young Cell Biologists would get interested in studying diagnostic cell structural changes, like ICIs.
@AidanFenix Could be an “intranuclear cytoplasmic inclusion”, an interesting diagnostic feature of a number of malignancies of unknown structure and function
@cytopathology The study of cells should be given as much money and attention as we spent on understanding the molecular level. The Molecular era needs to yield to a Cellular era to understand how cancer genes actually work.
@cytopathology https://t.co/60bx3JQPyO. The NEJM Question of the Week declares CT of neck to be the optimal next step in evaluating a neck mass. We all know USFNA by cytologists is better! More training of Cytologists and a clinical trial are needed!
@cytopathology We have not come close to finding all the cellular morphologies that will be useful for diagnosis and treatment of cancers. New microscopy techniques and other advances make this an exciting time for the ASC.
@CAPDCAdvocacy Doesn’t the solution to the problem of shortage of testing supplies lie in deregulation of FDA and CLIA guidelines? The validation process needs stresmlining to allow generic substitutions.
The COVID testing shortage falls very directly on CLIA, eg regulations that each CLIA lab would have to independently validate a non-approved nasal swab, or validate a homemade saline solution for viral transport.
I completely agree, but you would need a CLIA license, the FDA technically has to approve any components you would have to make, and you couldn’t use any validated protocols from another lab without validating it yourself.

Time to go back to the old papers and learn how to isolate RNA without a kit. If you are of a certain age you learned how to do this with chemicals and it worked. Not hard to do and...unlike what happens with a kit...you knew what you were doing https://t.co/FNDI8m62dL
