The liberal nationalist ideology of the New Deal is the best ideology ever invented by humankind. America has strayed from that path, but none of the modern alternatives -- CCP technonationalism, European degrowth, MAGA, wokeness, etc. -- measures up.
There's no good civic argument for the electoral college. It was arguably necessary to ensure the ratification of the Constitution, but it's an anti-democratic device that gives some American citizens far more voting power than others, based purely on where they live.
@Msbeervendor 💯. The Seattle lightrail expansion feels like it is already making a positive impact on the city and broader regional community. The network is beautiful, loved, effective, busy and decades in the making. @SoundTransit thank you.
Absolute bombshell. Data reveals someone made a massive 580 MILLION dollar trade on oil exactly 15 minutes BEFORE Donald Trump posted his tweet about pausing the Iran war. Someone on the inside just made a life changing fortune. The corruption is blatant.
A few thoughts:
1) This attack should not have happened without Congressional authorization. This is no mere technicality -- it's the framer's foundational design for how the republic should wage war.
2) Khamenei's death is a great victory, but we've all been on this rollercoaster before. The U.S. and Israelis have taken out lots of leaders and rulers in these long wars.
3) I very very very much want the regime to fall, and I desperately want democracy to take root, but remember, we're ultimately relying in large part on civilian protesters (hopefully with the support of dissenting regime elements) to actually topple the regime.
4) If we rely on protesters (who possess magnificent courage), I'm worried we might see something like what happened to Iraqis who rose up against a defeated Saddam in 1991. It was a bloody massacre. That's a nightmare scenario.
5) Our forces have performed magnificently, and I'm hoping and praying that the Iranian response remains inept and ineffective. But it's dangerous to simply presume that it will.
6) If we take losses (or if we suffer economic disruption) that's when we'll see one of the consequences of failing to go to Congress. We're a divided country. Trump is a mercurial man.
7) Trump's temperament and character are one reason why it's silly to say, "If I'd support this under any other president, I should support this under Trump." He's not like any other president. Bad and dishonest leaders make me less confident in their plans.
8) If, however, the Iranian people can rally, if our attacks can prevent the regime from massacring civilians, then it will be a massive accomplishment and a great day for the U.S., Israel, and the world.
Democrats should be doing everything they can to force a vote and make clear that they oppose a war with Iran that an overwhelming majority of Americans opposes. It would be a massive failure of leadership not to do so.
You cannot cheer America’s illegal attack on Venezuela while condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and China’s threats against Taiwan. Selective application of international law means no rule of law.
It's an old and obvious pattern. An unpopular president - failing on the economy and losing his grip on power at home - decides to launch a war for regime change abroad.
The American people don’t want to “run” a foreign country while our leaders fail to improve life in this one.
Great that Maduro is gone, but what’s next? This may not be the end of a regime that’s lasted through both Chavez and Maduro and their henchmen.
Also what do China and Russia conclude from this for their regions?
What’s clear:
The ends can’t justify the means. You cannot break the law to enforce the law.
The American people deserve answers.
