Here’s why I don’t really give a fuck about this. Clarance Thomas and his wife have taken over ten million from billionaires and companies that have active decisions before the court. Not random people giving comparatively small gifts that happen to align with a cause they agree with, straight up bribes by people.
This isn’t a whattaboutism, it’s why I don’t care. A papercut sucks, but if I was just stabbed, I have exactly zero fucks I give about it. As long as people take millions in bribes, I honestly don’t give any fucks about 4k concert tickets and other random gifts that total to a rounding error of the value of gifts others get.
So to me, when you have all the time to care about this, all I see is time wasted talking about something not important. It’s not being in a cult, it’s reality.
@EatonDick69@DariusBearVT@LeadingReport I feel like I just had a stroke. Your comment is nonsense. This isn’t about winning or losing, we are both talking about matters of opinion, not fact, there’s nothing to win or lose here. There’s no right or wrong, it’s just our view on what is reasonable. Are you ok?
@EatonDick69@DariusBearVT@LeadingReport I’m of the opinion that 4k in concert tickets isn’t really a problem for justices whose salaries are 75x that amount. However getting millions of dollars is an issue. Theres a big difference between those things.
To use more food examples: For breakfast i love eggs, jam and bread. I could be saying that I like to eat eggs and bread with jam. I could also be saying that i like eggs and jam and bread are types of eggs. Or I could be saying that i like to eat eggs, jam, and bread as three separate items.
@imrightusually@ProjectLiberal In English, there are three correct interpretations to your statement. You like to eat burgers and coke and they are types of pizza, you like to eat burgers and coke and pizza, or you like to eat pizza and a burger/coke hybrid food. This is why it’s not simple.
@imrightusually@ProjectLiberal This helps to illustrate the problem. We’re the first parts referring to separate categories or where they referring to one category.
@ClownistLarp@Captain_Fubar I don’t think they will, same with the US. It’s a managed decline facilitated by the transition from liberal democracy to right wing authoritarian governments.
@ClownistLarp@Captain_Fubar Considering this is a poll about young Americans my point stands. Although you’re not incorrect, the EU hasn’t given enough aid to Ukraine and has failed to build up its military industries in response to Russia, China, NK, or Iran.
The selfless answer is that they need it more than US taxpayers need it. The selfish answer is that we don’t want them to be “shithole countries” as you so eloquently put it. Many countries don’t have the money to build and maintain stable institutions. Furthermore, it increases the US diplomatic soft power. Unstable institutions depress economic growth and increase radicalization/violence. Violent and poor nations make for horrible business and are a huge global security threat. Also, having little to no influence over said violent and poor countries means that short of invasion, there’s little we can do to stop them. TLDR, it’s an investment that pays dividends to our economy and national security.
