New hope for tackling drug-resistant TB ๐ฆ
Chemists and infectious-disease researchers from the University of Sydney and Centenary Institute have created new cyclic peptide drugs that disable a vital bacterial protein, ClpC1, which helps Mycobacterium tuberculosis survive stress.

This is a liver section stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The large circles are fat droplets. Magnification 100x #CentenaryInstitute
Microscope Monday! This image entitled 'Ice Flower' was submitted by Emma Zhang in our 2020 'When Art Meets Science' image competition. The image depicts E. coli bacteria growing in a dish, demonstrating a crystal-like structure, similar to frost formed in a window.
#NAIDOCWeek celebrations will be held across Australia from 6-13 July 2025 to celebrate & recognise the history, culture & achievements of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples. At Centenary we also celebrate the First Nations people as the first scientists of this nation.
Microscope Monday! Description: "During the bushfires, when Sydney was covered in smoke... so was our Institute - outside and INSIDE!!! Once I realised that - I realised that the smoke would have made things visible, which normally are not - our lasers!"

Microscope Monday! This is a microscopic image of a liver during a viral infection. White blood cells are accumulating around blood vessels of the liver. The structural fibres that surround the blood vessels of the liver light up when excited by the microscope laser (blue).
