👩⚕️the life and contributions made to the field of psychiatry by pioneering 'alienist' Dr Adele de Steiger
Rachael Bailey-Gibson is a Future 100 Centenary Scholarship Postgraduate Researcher. She is in the second year of her PhD programme. Her thesis is titled ‘Remote Benevolent Despots?: The English Alienist Psychiatrist, 1845-1921’.
Less than 2 hours to the Student Showcase! These sessions explore: elite women’s opinions of Sir Richard Croft, who attended the labour and death of Princess Charlotte of Wales, and the contributions of pioneering alienist (psychiatrist) Dr de Steiger. Teams link and abstracts ⬇️
Dr de Steiger’s notebook from 1893, lent to @Leicvichistory by her great-nephew, will also be explored. This rare source gives an insight into her personal thoughts, influences, and motivations, bringing her fascinating and inspirational work to life.
