GEGAC serves the Aboriginal and wider East Gippsland communities for over 30 years, providing health, cultural education, employment & welfare services.
Was great to catch up with @ChairBRV this week at GEGAC to discuss the enormous recovery task ahead. Thanks for taking the time and look forward to working with the rest of the team through the coming months.

Just found out that we with our partner Swinburne are finalists for the Vic Training Awards. Well done team and all those involved. Good luck. #VTA2020
@DanielAndrewsMP GEGAC welcomes the announcement of Orange Door within Outer Gippsland. Now all we do is wait to find out where. Great for another resource to address what is not part of our culture and be safe our way.
Day 1 of our drive through mask pick up at GEGAC to support community with COVID-19. Great to see some people through picking up masks in this weather. Remember to stay safe and if you have symptoms get tested. Next drive through to be advised
in meeting with @VicGovDHHS re East Gippsland COVID-19 situation. If we dont get the communications and processes right this will get out of hand. @VACCHO_org
As we face an increased threat of COVID in the region GEGAC will be doing things a little differently. Updates will be provided here on a regular basis and also our other social media and website.
Today kicks of day 1 of the #ACF in Lakes Entrance. The challenge has been set to change the status quo of Aborigjnal kids involved with CP. Now Chris is talking about our pilot project to support Aborignal families to avoid future CP contact. @LukeDonnellan
Having some great conversations today about Aboriginal self determination with bush fire recovery. Looking at some great frameworks that acknowledge, respect and build upon Aboriginal social and cultural belonging and knowledge. @MFBChief @AboriginalVic
Thanks @GayleTierney for the opportunity to discuss Aboriginal employment and training opportunities in East Gippsland with the bushfire recovery. Also thank you for the additional funds to support regional fire impacted further education students @TAFEGippsland
Had the first Bushfire Advisory Council meeting yesterday. Lots of work to do with cultural heritage protection and identification of new sites being a priority. @AboriginalVic needs to continue to be a support not the lead with LAN’s and central to get the job done #recovery
Last year our Nungurra service had the opportunity to kick of the regional homelessness consultations. Just had the short video sent through about our service and the work we do in youth homelessness. Thanks @FionaPattenMLC for the chance to contribute

Interesting article and considering the health impacts on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and broader Australia isn’t this worth a try?? We tax everything else so why not sugar?
Don’t believe the myths!
A health levy on sugary drinks:
✅ Works
✅ Is working in 40+ countries & cities
✅ Helps poorest most
✅ Would save health system $600M
✅ Would raise $400M for child health, education & more

Has another great Board meeting this week. Some future planning sorted and more strategic planning undertaken. Some good announcements to come in the coming weeks. Also it was Aunty Cath’s last Board meeting before she retires. We will miss her advice and patience. Good luck Aunt
Thanks to Tammy at Moogji and Aunty Aileen for taking the time out to talk to me about what has happened and is going on east of the snowy. The drive was heartbreaking and along with lots of people who will need healing it is clear how much healing the land needs.
One of the greatest benefits of doing this job is working with strong, passionate Aboriginal people who want better for our communities. Especially as we are working towards bush fire recovery.
@afcoory @marcialangton @salvationarmy Thank you. The work which we have been doing has been done by a great team who are dedicated to the community we are part of. That’s what makes it easier in desperate times.
@JennyMikakos @GEGACVIC Thank you @JennyMikakos for taking the time and hearing how we as a region are working through this crisis and listening to our proposal on providing long term mental health assistance for people impacted by bushfires and our housing concerns.
