The Brazil nut is the most radioactive food on earth, and it is sold as a health supplement.

Not a figure of speech. The tree pulls barium out of the soil, radium travels with the barium because they behave alike, and the nut concentrates both. Two a day works out at up to 220 microsieverts a year, which is about 10 chest X-rays. The 2024 review that measured it called for trials on cancer biomarkers. Nobody has run them.

Then the selenium, which is the reason anybody eats them.
